I have utilized the Dental Hosp on Soi 49 for many, many years and consistently gotten good care.

The only caveat I would give is that the check-up dept will recommend every single thing that could possibly be justified so it is well to question the necessity if what they suggest involves a tooth you do not experience problems with. They aren't at all pushy about it and in my experience when you ask things like "is there any harm in leaving it be for now?" they'll answer truthfully. The things they find are not untrue, just not always really necessary to fix. For example they will tell you about any fillings that look loose, though replacing these can wait.

The dentists who do the actual work cover the full range of specialties and have all been satisfactory that I have encountered They do a very thorough job with cleaning as well.

I have never used the Tonglor one so can't comment on it.

Went for a check up at the Dental hospital soi 49 a few years ago. After a check they recommended root canal and caps for all four wisdom tooth at great expense which I declined. When I went home I got my dentist there to look and he said no need, that was 8 years ago and still no need. As I was there I thought I would have just one front filling done, but did not check the price. They charged six thousand baht as it was 4 surfaces, that must be the most expensive place in Bkk if they were not overcharging, either way never again.

What qualifies as 'great expense'?

I am interested in having some wisdom teeth removed. Not sure where I would do this.

Most of that cost would have been for the crowns (caps). It is far less expensive to just remove wisdom teeth than to do root canals & crowns.

My niece had wisdom tooth extraction there. I do not remember the cost (and in any case it was 5 years ago) but it I don't recall finding it unduly expensive. And we were happy with the care.

If both sides need extracting they will usually do just 1 at a time, otherwise too sore and swollen afterwards to eat. There would be some cost saving in doing both at once, and it is possible to do this, but you'd pay for it in discomfort and inability to eat solids afterwards for a while. When it's just 1 side, you can still chew on the other.

I think you can call or email them for a quote. Unusual for Thailand, they are pretty good at responding to emails in English

My wife had one, or a other tooth close to it removed at a local small dentist and I couldn't believe the bill. If I recall right it was 200 Baht (or maybe 300). I thought that alone the local anesthetic must cost more. It was maybe 5-6 years ago.

Totally agree with Sheryl. I've had a a few different procedures at Dent Hosp on 49 and I found the work done was excellent and fairly priced.

Dr. Pongsawat who does the periodic cleanings is excellent. Very thorough and great hands.

Dr Suivimol is an operative dentist and does only fillings. Again, she is very good and incredibly thorough

I maintain that the place wanted to do work that was not necessary and grossly overcharged for what was done. At the very least it's service is inconsistent as some posters are pleased with the place. As well as that the attitude was poor, the woman doing the xrays complained about the number of filings I had, probably partly due to work not needed, while the dentist never said a word.

I went to the Thong Lor one and found them wanting to do fillings were it was not needed!

The X-Ray showed a couple of very minor cavities. Still they insisted, I told them I needed to go to an ATM.

Instead I went straight to another dentist and the dentist would not find any sizable or worrying ones on inspection.

I told her about the X-Ray results at the expensive place and she told me the small internal cavities are better left alone unless they become a problem.

She saved me many baht and a year later still no issues.

I have been to Dental Hospital several times.

Care is very good, no doubt.

Prices are not cheap but still acceptable.

Attitude was nice and friendly years ago, rude and impolite this time. Actually so rude that I left and tried to find somewhere else. But it was Sunday afternoon and i urgently needed a very specialized procedure that is hard to find in Thailand - so i was stuck with them.

Part of what you pay for at a place like that is the personalised care, friendly manner and professional approach. You don't expect rudeness at those prices, or a dentist working on you for an hour who just chats about what they did last night to the nurse while entirely ignoring the patient. If I wanted to pay a top price with great service I would go to oral dental centre at amarin plaza, and they don't do unnecessary work, bit far for me now though.

I was there just a month ago and they were pleasant and efficient as always. So maybe you just caught them on a bad day. Or encountered a bad apple among the staff...

Don't recall but the lot of them were moody. Went to Navonthorn hospital last week and the dentist chatted about visiting the UK wanted to take a photo of us and was really lovely, lady obviously! I will be back there, ignorant over charging places no thanks.
