Featured Replies

Whoever made the seatbelt comments is in somesmall part is right however they are missing the glaring major issue that that road should not have been left criminnaly (imo) in that condition. That is the start of the whole issue with the correct barriers this would not have happened.

A very sad loss of a wondeful young life that somebody should be accountable for.

RIP Molly you little angel.

My wholehearted thoughts and prayers and with Gordon and O and this devastaing time.

Gordon and O have asked me to pass on their sincere thanks and appreciation to everybody that has sent message and their condolences. They are struggling to answer everyone of the messages at this very difficult time but hope to do so over the coming weeks.

Your respects can be made to Molly who is now laid at the temple at Baan Maniq between Cherngtalay and the Heroines Monument. It is behind the Market and next to Permsap Villas in Maniq. The temple is open daily between 9am and 8pm with a small ceremony each day between 7pm and 8pm.

The service itself will be at 12 noon on Wednesday 17th December at the same location.

Everybody is welcome.

My heart sank when I read this news.

RIP little one.

My thoughts and prayers go out for her family and friends.

So sorry for your loss.

Girl passes away in ICU after truck crashes into Phuket sinkhole

Worawut Songyod, the Mayor of Srisoonthorn.

PHUKET: -- Seven-year-old Molly Anne Bailey has died of her injuries following two days in Vachira Phuket Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit after the pick-up truck she was riding in crashed into a large hole left by the collapse of a minor road in Srisoonthorn on Thursday (December 11).

Molly underwent brain surgery on Friday (December 12) and relatives were hoping for a better outcome, but Molly’s injuries were too severe.

Molly's body was sent to Manik temple, Srisoonthorn, at 1.30pm today (December 14). Worawut Songyod, Srisoonthorn municipality, went to pay his respects to Molly and her family.

Local residents complained a month ago about the flood erosion on the Baan Lipon-Baan Bangjo Rd in Moo4 that had caused the road to collapse, leaving a hole eight metres across and two metres deep.

Orbortor officials, however, told residents to use an alternative route via Baan Banjo Prison because the council did not have the funds to make repairs.

One of the locals, Supaporn Jareonrak, called police on Thursday night to report that a motorcycle and a pick-up truck had driven into the hole.

Srisoonthorn rescuers, Kusoldharm rescuers and police arrived to find the Isuzu truck lying in the hole, on top of the wreckage of the motorbike.

Inside were the driver of the truck, Phakkamon Duangchaytemcharat, 38, suffering from a broken arm, and her seven-year-old daughter, Molly Anne Bailey, a student of Kajonkiet International School, who was unconscious. Both were rushed to Thalang hospital.

Residents told police the motorcycle belonged to Sod Boonrueang, 34, who had earlier driven into the hole. Locals had taken him to hospital 10 minute before the truck crashed on top of his bike.

Residents issued a plea to Worawut Songyod, the Mayor of Srisoonthorn, to do something about the hole. They said last night’s accidents were not the first; “many vehicles” that used the road had fallen into the hole, they said, and been injured.

Police noted that the road was dark at the time of the crash, with few street lights and no warning lights. The only warning was a piece of green plastic net stretched across the road and a small handwritten notice on a piece of cloth stating, “Road cut off.”

Mayor Worawut told The Phuket News that his staff had installed a series of metal crowd control barriers across the road and put up warning signs at the side of the road before the hole, but that someone had removed the barriers – he did not know who or why.

He added that he had spoken to Ms Phakkamon in hospital. He said she told him she used the road regularly and, seeing the barriers no longer there, had assumed that the road had been fixed.

He added that he was working on ways to prevent further accidents.

Ater 1 month of not finding a way, may I suggest you march as many civil employees as required to fill the hole, pack them down with a roller vehicle and oour a couple trucks of concret mix on top. Do be kind enough to lead the procession and leave instructions to smoth finish the surface.

Get this clown out of the ballpark and off the gravy train, he has had way over the 3 strike limit.

If there was no money to haul in truckloads of dirt then that is because they are pocketing the money as all politicians do. It is very cheap to have trucks haul in dirt to fill a hole (as a temporary measure). They don't have to pave it to make it safe.

Everyone of the officials involved in neglecting this should be placed in prison.

How hard would it have been to park some auto wrecks or equipment around the hole or have a couple people stand 24/7 with lights around the hole to wave people off?

Murder charges should be brought against the officials who did NOTHING for a month as vehicles continued to drive into the hole.

All that was needed, a month or so ago, for temporary repair, ( all Thai repairs are temporary ), would have been a truckload, or two od rocks and sand but no one knew that ? Remember these are some of the same authorities who will

build solar paneled buildings, super highways and hi speed trains ! When pigs fly !

A couple of those long concrete barriers would of worked just fine, and impossible to remove without heavy equipment.

How expensive are orange traffic cones?

Far too useful - they wouldn't last 5 minutes. I'm surprised the metal barriers lasted as long as they did. I hope the people who stole them end up in the same pit as the local mayor.

(By the way Mayor Worawut, nice jeans, very smart, very respectful.)

Went to the temple tonight. Full of people and it was good to see Gordy there and Molly's mother.

Gordy got tired of all the pics being taken at the place so he had signs in Thai requesting no pics. coffee1.gif

Thais could not read Thai, ipads and iphones everywhere taking pics of everyone. The person that came with me and I just turned around from placing a joss stick, and there was a <deleted> camera aimed at both of us. Both of us told him, in Thai, that it is impolite. God, sometimes I hate this place.
