Closing shafts to stop rats

Featured Replies

Anyone know a contractor in Bangkok for the following. Have contacted a couple already but the job seems too small for rhem as they never came back.

My house in Bangna Bangkok has an occasional problem with rats in the ceiling void downstairs. i'm 99% sure they are rising through one (or more) of the shafts. I would like a contractor to open each shaft one by one, check it, and seal it inside. There are 5 shafts. Will pay good money for this cos I'm sick of these damn rats.

I had a rat problem in a shed I built in Australia years ago, tried everything to get rid of them but to no avail.

Someone put me on to naphthalene, the stuff they make mothballs out of. Rats and mice hate the smell of it, apparently it is a really strong odor to them.

I just spread it around the areas they were haunting and I never saw another rat after that day.

My friend had them in the roof cavity of his house, running around all night and keeping him awake. These were native mice, from the 'antechinus' family.

He threw mothballs up there and they were gone, for good.

A cheap way to get rid of them and it works.

Good luck.

Tell me about it!!

I have this problem. I do live quite rural and the house is surrounded by trees.

During the day I love watching the striped chipmunks eat my roseapples, the bushy tail squirrels, the "unbushy" tailed squirrels running along my electric cables but at night they are nesting in my roof.

They squeel, they run about and at one point the chases and noises were so bad I actually thought the local cat was up there.

However only yesterday what I thought was the aggressive cat; was actually 2 very pale coloured fat field rats (i think)

I have no access to the roof; they get in around the eaves. I did try to flick a few pink pellets in through a tiny hole previously but useless.

I have lots of Naphta; we use it in the business mainly to keep cockroaches away but I hadn't realised it was effective against large rodents.

I am going to try this today because my imagination of what damage they have done to the roof timbers is running riot.

if that idea fails; its making a new ceiling hatch instead.

A very good solution to an annoying problem. Mothballs are available at supermarkets. Keep away from kids.....they are not peppermints.
