Thai Licence Taken For Driving On Pavement

Featured Replies

Hi All,

does anyone know if the security guys that write you a ticket for driving, dropping litter on pavements would contact the police? The reason i ask is they say i have to pay 5,000 Baht to collect my licence but i would rather say i have lost it and fill out a police report and get a new one.

thanks in advance

Are you saying rent-a-cops wrote you a ticket and confiscated your license?

yes they did, same that fine you for dropping litter. There were about 10 of them writing tickets for Thai's too.

If they took your licence then wouldn't they be authorised to do so by the police?

I mean you wouldn't give your licence to anyone who was unauthorized would you?

I imagine they have a requirement to notify the police, but I'm just guessing.

so as i understand your post indicates you have broken some sort of law/bylaw

if it is a genuine fine well i suggest you wise up pay it and not solicit advice on how to avoid paying what is due

please note the word GENUINE

These are BMA employees and have no connection with the police, they do not have the authority to confiscate your licence. You can go to the police and, if you have paid the fine that they are authorised to impose, ask for assistance in getting your licence returned. If you have a receipt the fine is legitimate, the 5000B is a scam.

"yes they did, same that fine you for dropping litter" You're not one of the same that rides on the pavement, surely?

If you file a false police report, you can be sentenced to a year in jail.

Technically he did lose his license.................to the rent a cop who appropriated it from him.

There is supposed to be a new directive to stop motorbikes driving on pavements, so maybe this is part of it? Could BMA officials be empowered to confiscate licences? Or maybe it was a real police officer.

Report your license stolen by these people (time, place, etc), show them the ticket. Don't know for sure, but an offence like riding on a pavement we be more like 400 baht. Caveat -- in dealing with the police with this, you might open the door to more fun.

Technically he has stated he gave his licence to these people whoever they were/are so quite clearly not lost

of course if you care to go with him to the R T P and explain your theory on his behalf sick.gif.pagespeed.ce.tVTSNn-2vrJpEP3T5-

The fine sounds well over the usual cost for being legit.

If you file a false police report, you can be sentenced to a year in jail.

And six months for using false documents to obtain a new driving license.

Your own fault don't drive on the pavement. It is stupid.

Actually it is legal in Thailand when traffic is very heavy. Part of the M/C driving test.

It's a question in the Thai M/C test. Here's a link but it may get deleted because TV has an M/C forum otherwise Google driving on sidewalks in Thailand. Scroll down to the replies.

It's also illegal to drive a vehicle without a shirt but you can Google that yourself.
