webfact Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Do you know the woman stealing phones on the beaches of Samui?KOH SAMUI: -- The Samui Times has had reports that there is a Thai woman who sells bikinis on the beach, but also does a neat sideline stealing phones and iPads from people who have gone swimming and left their valuables on the beach – wrapped in their towel more often than not.She patrols the beach seeing who has what, and then waits for them to ‘hide’ their phone etc before they go swimming… she then calmly walks to their towels and takes whatever is there, and quickly leaves the area.In Maenam she has so far had an iPad and an iPhone (2 different strikes), but hasn’t been seen the last few days. She possibly moves around the island to the less populated beaches looking for victims… so people need to be aware of her.She is normal Thai size (ie: not too tall), around her 30s (difficult to estimate her age, but somewhere between 25 and 35 years old), is of normal build (not fat, not thin)… she seems to have a partner too… a woman of similar age, but rather ‘chubby’ – bordering on ‘big’.It would be great if anyone has seen her to comment on this article so we can get an idea of her habits. Would also be interesting to know if anyone else has ‘lost’ anything while they were swimming too, and if anyone has a better description… or even a photo of her if she is spotted.-- Samui Times 2014-12-16
fritzzz25 Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Time to do a "sting" on her like the news companies did in the USA for the TSA agents stealing ipads and using the "find my phone feature. Find some way to jam the sim card slot so she cannot pop the sim out and be monitoring it with a laptop at all times to get a snapshot of her face.

You have far, far, far too much time on your hands. 4
samuijimmy Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 It might help to know what part of Maenam beach this has been happening, the beach is several kilometers long... It's hardly surprising she might not have been around for a few days, given high tides and very rough waves on Maenam beach... not many people on this beach areas swimming right now! Having said that the west and south beaches are much calmer....
spidermike007 Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Find her, nab her, punish her in the most severe way imaginable. Maybe she will learn something in this lifetime. Maybe she will decide that working for a living is an ok thing to do with ones life, and preying on others is not.

glasswort Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 What idiot wraps valuables in a towel before going for a swim? This is Thailand, remember, where opportunists abound! 1

Well I do it often and it's never been a problem, here on Samui or Koh Phangan.... so opportunities don't always abound ... You can just ask some one to keep on eye on things, it not a huge problem usually... 1

What a strange attitude/comment. And where would you put any valuables whilst going for a swim? In my experience, you are less likely to loose something off a beach in Thailand than most other tourist destinations. 2

If you want to leave valuables on the beach, up to you. However an "Alien" is required to carry passport at all times, even whilst swimming. Just tuck it into the budgie smuggler along with meqt and two veg.

Not quite true these days look at post no 315 on http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/650209-interesting-topics-reads/page-13 Mind you, you should carry photo id (and at my age and physique - budgie smugglers are a definite no no.) 1
