Having been ripped by taxis last time I was in Bangkok, and visiting this weekend, thought I d like to try a public transport option from Don Muang even if it takes a little longer!

Google advises buses, A1 or A2 go to Mo Chit where the Skytrain starts. The option of local train doesnt seem advisable due to inconsistent running.

Any advice gratefully welcome regarding whether the bus/ skytrain option works.

Also, suppose I could taxi Don Muang to Mo Chit, which would cost less than a taxi to downtown, then pick up the skytrain?

Advice/ guidance please !

I arrive at Don Mueang at least once a month and I always take the A1 over to Mo Chit and then the Skytrain and walk straight into my office at Chit Lom. It's so much faster than taking a taxi.

Don't ever try to take a taxi from Mo Chit to the airport, the tossers there will try to get 400 or 500 from you....

when walking down from BTS Mo Chit to the street , never ! ask the Taxi guys waiting under / along the Bridge . Rip OFF ! No Meter.

walk towards the parked Minibuses, stand on the street and get a passing-by Taxi. No problem to get one.

Never had any discussion about Meter on or not. Fare to the Airport is 110 Baht plus 60 baht Tollway if u in a hurry.

I've had much more problems with the taxi's at Don Muang than at Survanabhumi...even had one who turned the meter on when we departed arrivals only to turn it off once we hit the highway and demand B500. Fortunately for me, I know what the fare runs and that's all he got. When he started to argue, I told him to call the cops...555!

The a/c bus 504 runs from before Silom road to Rangsit. Takes at least an hour to get to DM depending on traffic. About 20 baht.

I have only caught it going to the airport. Coming from the airport you would best exit the terminal by the northern exit i.e. away from the town direction to get to the bus stop. If you walk the other way towards town you will have a looooong walk to the bus stop.

If you are going to Mo-Chit bus station for further travels, I have used a public bus from Don Muang to the bus station for maybe 35 Baht. and i think express from memory.

Thanks everyone for very useful advice. Just to update,

Walked out of Don Muang 14.55. Bus A1 going to Mo Chit was waiting. 20 minutes later, was entering the Skytrain at Mo Chit. 25 minutes later walked into my hotel at Sukhumvit Soi 7.

So thats 45 minutes by public transport, total cost 100 baht, and on a friday, faster than a taxi which would have cost over 300 baht including the highway tolls!

Now that I know, its a "no brainer".....public transport for me from now on !!

Postman Pat can you give more details please about exactly where the A1 bus stops at Mo Chit? I want to use that service the other way around, from Mo Chit to DM.

Lancashirelad, the bus stops on the main road about 100 metres from the entrance to the Skytrain, and the very helpful driver and the lady who takes the money show the bus passengers where the Station entrance is.

Today, I did the trip in reverse, Nana to Mo Chit, Skytrain, 42 baht. A1 bus was standing just by the station at Mo Chit ( you have to find the correct bus stop as there seem to be many different buses passing by there ). 30 baht on the bus. Total cost 72 baht and from Nana to Don Muang in about 45 minutes !!

Thanks Pat, that's just what I want. I guess the bus must leave from somewhere along here, between the 2 sets of steps?

(this is looking South along the northbound carriageway).

Last year I got a taxi from there to DM ......... eventually! Had to ask about 6 before I found one willing to do it on the meter. Then we had to u turn back and then u turn north again because Suthep's demonstrators had the road blocked off. The driver explained it quite welI and even apologized for the higher than usual fare.

I realize now, looking at the map to find the above link, I could actually have got the MRT to Bang Sue and from there the regular overground train.

Just to follow up on this. On 14 January I traveled from Suvarnabhumi to DM. My original plan was

Airport Link train --> Phayathai.

BTS --> Mo Chit.

A1 bus --> DM.

Decided to try an easy option. Free transfer from nearby hotel to Swampy. Free shuttle bus to DM smile.png

Swampy Floor 2 Door 3. Go outside, turn right, see desk. Show flight confirmation from DM. Bus was waiting. We left at 11.04am (11.00 bus not shown on timetable) and arrived at DM with no traffic hold ups at 11.52 so I would allow an hour. Verdict: very easy & free!
