Hi Jockstar

It's not possible to fly direct from Phuket anymore. It means a flight to KL and a change of aircraft

what is the best way to get to Penang from Phuket ?
Good, better, best: it is relative.

Fastest: fly.

Cheapest: swim.

What was your question?

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

No direct flights - if you want to fly you will have to change at KL.

You can take a bus to Hat Yai (7-8 hours) and then get a minibus from there to Penang (3 hours).

You might be able to fly to Hat Yai and then get a minibus to Penang.

You could get a bus to Surat Thani and take the train to Butterworth.

...or you could take a bus to Satun, then a ferry to Langkawi, then a ferry to Penang.

Since our OP needs a visa run, and direct flights are no more, why not buzz down to KL and get the visa from the embassy there?

Easier to find than Penang, no need for agents, more interesting place :o

This assumes of course that he doesn't want to spend weeks in a rattly old bus :D
