Aircon problem from SIAM TV

Featured Replies

Please take it as a warning or advise if you have any legal suggestion. I am not looking for technical advice here, as probably non of you is a specialist.

I bought an aircon unit Haier from SIAM TV (Electronic Plaza) in July.

Aircon is not working well. For example : if room temperature is 29C and I set up aircon to 22C (or even 16C), after waiting 1 hour or 2 hours, room temperature is going down just little bit to 26C and not go down anymore.

First time SIAM TV technician came and did inhouse job. They said there was a leak and now is fixed. But problem was still the same after they left.

Second time technicians came again with a sales person from SIAM TV. They decided to take the aircon unit together with the compresor to the service. I was waiting 2 weeks to have it back. After they installed it back again - problem is still the same.

Today I went to SIAM TV again and I said I would really request money back and I will buy there an another unit, not Haier anymore, probably Mitsubishi.

THey told me money back is definately impossible, they will be fixing the problem until is fixed. Also they said, as a shop they did already everything they could, and now they are suggesting me to contact Haier service centre by myself.

This is really uncovenient situation for me. My room gets really hot because have sun all day long. I can not accept they will take it again for 2 or 3 weeks and problem is not resolved again. Looks like I spent 20,000baht for a broken aircon and can not get money back. Also warranty will not last forever.

Please note, that I am always polite when talking to them, not raising my voice etc.

Any advice ?

For what it is worth I have bought several items from Siam and am completely satisfied. They went to extra lengths to hook up my TV. Just posting so that people don't think Siam is all bad.

Me too, TV, Air con, fridge, shower heater, all worked perfectly and delivered and fitted quickly. Very hard to beat them on price.

Sorry to hear about your aircon unit. Not sure about the legal side ,but would advise you to contact the service centre at Haier, after they will have better product knowledge than the shop and the technician will come with spares in his van . I had a problem with a dishwasher supplied by the same company initially their response was poor, but once I diagnosed the problem for them with the help of an engineer in the UK it was sorted very quickly. Good prices but after sales could be improved.

Good luck

for aircon services in Chiang Mai I recommend Dragon Air. They provide great services and prices for aircon are sometimes even cheaper than in the big department stores. And the price includes 1 year of servicing as well.

Aircon could be just fine but too small for the room size and sun exposure.

You need a specialist first to determine the facts.

Without the facts, there is no point in discussing unless you like to waste your time and others.

As suggested above, contact Harier directly and get their technician to check it.

Does the condensing unit run continuously? How cold is the air coming out of the vent? Does water come out of your condensate line? What is the shape of the room? If it can't flow freely; it will shut off. Also, sounds like it could be a defective thermostat. It's not rocket science. Now is a good time to get is fixed. I had to make four trips to the Samsung Service Center to get a 20 usd mobile phone repaired that was only three months old. The third time I told them in America, they would give me another one just to make me go away...not here. So four days, no phone, no loaner, and it's fixed...the shoot yourself in the foot Thai way, because every time I am looking for anything that Samsung makes; I will remember that it was kind of a pia to get the phone fixed, and it also shows poor quality control.

My guess is that the air conditioner is fine but you are not getting enough amperage. Try contacting your electric company to get the problem resolved, You have to be polite but persistent,

Haier Chinese brand for 20K?

They sell Carrier and Mitsubishi brands at Big C for around 12K. I know, we bought one. 12,000 BTU I believe. Both very reliable brands. I know that's not very helpful but it's always best to get the most dependable brands to avoid something like this.

If you don't get anywhere with Siam TV, maybe get another technician to come and check out the problem? I recommend PK Air in Hang Dong. They work on all brands. PM for telephone contact as not allowed to post contact info per forum rules.

Contact the Office of Consumer Protection in the Government complex near the 700 year Stadium.

Where I came from, product warranties are generally provided by the manufacturers themselves, and retailers generally will not service defective goods after purchase. Some of the larger electronics/white goods retailers will provide additional years of warranties on top of the usual manufacturer's warranties (of about 1-2 years). This could be free of charge, or buyer pay for additional warranty cover at point of purchase. In any case, I will always clarify whether it is the retailer or manufacturer who will provide repair services after purchase.

That said, some retailers will take back lemon products within say 1-2 weeks of purchase and replace with a new item as a matter of customer service. But one would have to check whether this level of service is available prior to purchase.

So it all depends on what Siam TV has agreed to provide as part of customer service for buying their goods. For eg, I bought an electric fan from Homepro, and it comes with a 1-year warranty from the manufacturer. Before buying, the salesperson told me that if it's a lemon, I can come back to the store within a week, and they will replace it with another copy, and I do not need to send it to the manufacturer to service it.

Your problem started when you went into this particular retailer.

Salespeople work on comission so will push you to buy regardless of whether they know a thing about what they are selling.

Forget about after sales service... they will delay and delay hoping that you will go away or the warranty has expired.

I thought my first experience with them was a fluke... then the same thing happened a second time. Avoid like the plague...

Try to get something out of the manufactuer's service center is your only hope.

Dont buy from Siam TV again.

Next time you post dont contradict yourself.

Dont cross the road without looking both ways.

Since I am not a specialist in aircons and you asked us not to give advice for that. Then your last sentence was for advice. I hope my advice was helpful

This won't help, but avoid Haier in future. Absolute junk! Had Mitsu Mr Slims, which are excellent and quiet and run like that for years on end, but thought I'd go with Haier in the office. Worked alright at first but started getting noisy and eventually the blower bearing just gave up. Sorted it myself but the thing rattled and creaked a couple weeks after buying and they are clearly made with the cheapest plastics and components.

If I had a bee in my bonnet, my advice would be to keep calling and calling and calling every single day. Keep walking into the shop, speaking loudly and be a royal PITA. But if I wanted to just move on, I would rip the thing off the wall, sell it second hand to a nice Thai person and install a Mitsu or Saijo. I will repeat for the cheap seats; DO NOT BUY HAIER, IT IS JUNK!!!!

Haier also put out chest freezers...ok if you put a large block of ice in them, otherwise they are only good as a storage chest. I saw a few Haier LCD televisions when in Afghanistan. Pity they weren't on a 'higher' shelf then customers wouldn't consider buying this junk. Always pays to do the research prior methinks.

Siam came out twice for me on my Haier that was less than 6 months old. The second time they put mesh wire over the drain tube, which would have prevented both calls. More recently, a few days after they put in a new water heater, I discovered they left out a rubber gasket where the power cord enters the unit. Took a photo f it to the store....they came, on time, the same day, and re-did it. Siam is fine in my book, but you have to look out for your own interest. Carrier (United Technology) is the best I have ever used in the nine homes that I have owned. I would take a Panasonic over a Mitsu any day of the week, and I've seen plenty of defective Samsung stuff over the years.

Ohh well, I had a specialist from SIAM TV visited my room couple of times already so they know the facts.

And aircon BTU is right to the room size and sun exposure.

I dont contradict myself. I had couple of specialists came already to have a look, thats why I don't need any technical advice anymore. I asked about advice what next steps should I take and how to deal with the problem.

And to answer you, no, your advice wasn't helpful at all.

First you tell a story about how bad Siam TV is and now you seem to be believing them. Which is it, are they good or bad?

You really like to waste your time posting comments like that ?

I never said that I don't believe or trust SIAM TV technicans. I just blame SIAM TV after service procedures, that they sold me broken aircon, and don't want to give me money back or change it for a new unit.

I believe that SIAM TV have good aircon specialists and they know what they do, and they agreed with me that aircon is not working properly. Probably there is some malfunction (they know exactly what is that) that is not fixable. But technician is not a sale person or somebody who can decide to give me money back or give me a new unit !

I believe the head of the service center is a very professional English speaker, who seems totally rational to me. Try bypassing the salespeople, and going to the rear building and ask to speak with the head.

interesting post. the op knows nothing and thinks everybody else is the same.

Yes I am dealing with them with this problem already. Yes, he can speak english quite well and he understands my problem, but he also can not help me.

So I was going and complaining couple of times and finally today SIAM TV changed my aircon for new one - inside and outside. New one is working great.

Previous one was blowing out air in temperature 18C - no less. (remote set up 16C)

New one is blowing out air in temperature 9C (remote set up 16C)

Good for you! Next time, stick with more reputable brands. Who exactly resolved the problem for you?

Mine has now been out for 10 days, a 10 month old LG - starter isn't firing up the compressor (or something like that). Siam TV took the starter away last Wednesday after I'd called them Monday. Called today and they cannot say when it will be back.

I've not been happy with the service so far, had to push for a technician to come out within a few days, when he came he was miserable and impolite. I've been polite but persistent, though this will wear thin soon. At what point will the OCPB (Consumer protection - 1166) be willing to help me out? I'd rather someone else push them, I'm tired of sitting in a baking concrete box and my temper wears thin at times like this.

Doug

Which are the best stores to buy from?

When I've had a problem with electrical goods I've always returned it to the manufacturer. They are trained to repair their products.
