Nikon D750 Owners Reporting a Dark Band Problem That Causes Ugly Lens Flares

Featured Replies

That is pretty bad . . . oh well, i suppose the Kings of Quality are allowed 1 mistake. rolleyes.gif

5555555!

Still not as bad as the A7r's ghastly dreadful guillotine-esque shutter though. Really that's been a deal breaker for me. We don't get on.

Just to add to this.

If anyone plans on purchasing a D750 the fixed off the shelf versions have a black dot in the female tripod thread underneath.

If it doesn't have that dot, well... there may be trouble ahead, but while there's music and moonlight and love and romance,

let's face the music and dance.

Save the headache, heartache...buy a D810 instead!

Or hold out and see what the Sony A9 is like. giggle.gif

DReview has a write-up on the issue:

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikon-d750/9

Their conclusion:

Does that mean it won't be an issue for you? Not at all - it absolutely might, especially in situations where you're purposefully heavily backlit aiming for a shot with flare. In such situations, if you're unlucky and have an affected unit and happen to hit the right angle with a bright light source just outside the frame, you may experience this issue. Even then, you'll be able to avoid it by slightly shifting the angle of your camera, but if that changes your shot, then you may find it irksome.

This sort of lines up with the other descriptions I have read: yes, the banding is there, but similiar banding exists in other camera that have been out for years with little or no complaints. In other words, for 99% of photographers, it won't be an issue; for 0.99% of photographers, it will be an issue, but their shots would have been bad anyway because they are trying to rescue a boring subject with a lens flare trick; for 0.01% of photographers, they should buy the D4s to be able to pull off this sort of shot without banding.
