Non-sequitur of the day (so far) award.

It matters little where the parents are. The fact is that so many Thai parents are totally irresponsible in buying their kids motorbikes, or handing them the keys to their own, when clearly under the legal age to drive......which is........?/17

Equally responsible are the police who turn a blind eye, and the schools who allow the kids to come to school on bikes.

Lock em all up!

So who buys bikes for 15 year olds? Or why do parents allow 15 year kids (often much younger) to drive motorbikes.

They are UNDERAGE.

Whenever an underage child is apprehended driving a bike. it is the parents/guardians who should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law! They need to show responsibility and held accountable!

Heavy fines and confiscation of the bikes!

Agree, this is what should happen, but then how many times have i seen cops standing around when the motorbikes flood out of the school gates in the afternoon, kids 3 up,no helmets, etc,no licence,no insurance,if Thailand was serious they would do as you suggest, then finally things may start to change, instead of the waffle every year about traffic crackdowns, but i won't be holding my breath.

And isn't this what the good general (now PM) should be sorting out instead of arranging "Feel Good" parties for the different political factions. Yes he's a busy man but he can delegate!

If these 3 kids had been prevented from riding the bike by government policy, correct policing plus parental and school responsibility, they would still be alive today.

The parents allow the kids to do as they like. This is the reason for so many problems; the kids cant handle "no" it just isnt ever said to them

Thats exactly right and particularly applies to Thai males in this culture. And when compounded with this "face thing", is the reason for so many problems here.

Age limit is 15 in Thailand for bikes of up to 110cc.

So, if bike was within the cc limit, they were not under-aged.

Now, whether or not the driver had a licence..........!

This is correct, but even if they had a license they would be doing the same thing for sure..

Excellent post Nick, but it is legal for a 15 year old the ride a motorbike up to 100 cc.

They were not underage, at 15 riding the bike they were on is legal.

The parents buy their under-age kids these motor-bikes.

The parents are sad when their young kids die.

The parents are Thai.

As we all know, life is cheap here.

I see younger children all of the time out on busy streets, some look to be 10 years old or younger. They are a hazard to everyone on the road, but mostly to themselves. They need to get exercise and ride bicycles!

Their lives are not "cheap" if they can blame you or anyone else with the BiB on board.......sad.png

Normally I do not support the junta, but sure it will (would) take years to get a little more order in this country enforced.

Amongst others it would include a complete dissolution and rebuild of the police organisation, proper payment and adequate equipment.

Who believes in that?

It will never happen and as for the parents they KNOW their children are under age and do nothing and then want to blame everyone else for their lack of care
