So there I was in my tracky pants and pink camisole top - half way between an all-nighter of story deadlines and waking up to go to the office - when, all of a sudden, a had an enormous chocolate craving. No arguments, I headed for the 7 -11. :D

What did I find at the bottom of my hill but a pickup truck backed into a well-concealed 3 ft drain with three Isaan boys and a gal waving at me frantically. :D

What am I doing behind the wheel of this crippled vehicle, I wondered a few seconds later. It revved and went nowhere of course. :D

A - ha - I spotted the saviour across the road and within moments had returned with several planks of timber from a construction site - carefully selected for their sturdiness and lack of nails. I skillfully placed them in front of the sad, back tyres - feeling like a magician all the while.... :D

Within moments, we were free and I was the hero :D ... my new Isaan friends were overjoyed and I couldn't believe that a girl on a chocolate run in a pink cami could be so useful!! :o

Hooray, we cheered, hooray! :D

Well THAT was fun!!!!!!!! All in a night's work..... true story, ruly truly :D

ps. does this belong in Redrus' sad but true stories????

Great story Khall !

One question though...

Was the reason you helped them because the truck was blocking your route to chocolate.. ? :o

What happened to the wood from the construction site?? :o

I threw them in the back of the pickup truck... what happened to 'them' after that is anyone's guess. I figure, that (being several planks of well selected specimens for sturdiness and lack of nails) they started their trek back to the forests from which they originated. Knowing this part of the world, it could well be Burma (sorry, Myanmar), Malaysia, Indonesia or more than likely the illegal logging sites of local national parks such as Khao Sok, and even the last local 'protected' forests of Phuket.

Whichever, they are now free and roaming the countryside - dodging the early morning traffic in an attempt to escape the unseemly end of ending up as discarded building site rubbish ... and even worse, featuring in full -colour on the weekly "Trashing Phuket' page of the Phuket Gazette!! :D

I wish them much luck on their quest!!!!!!

Good karma for you !

A few years ago I was driving from Ontario to British Columbia. To make the trip shorter and more enjoyable, I detoured through the US, planning on seeing some sites along the way.

Any how, driving through Idaho just after a snow storm, I see a old guy in a pull-out along side the highway, his truck stuck in the snow. I pulled in and offered to help.

Being from Canada (and living in the deep, deep boonies), I was prepared for this kind of thing. Pulled out the tow chain, hooked him up and pulled him out.

No big deal, less than 5 minutes of effort from start to finish. The old guy offered to pay me and I said No Thanks, maybe one day you'll have the opportunity to help someone else in a similar position (we Canadians are just sooooo nice !). :D

I drove on into the next town. Next thing I know, I see a blue flashing light in my rear-view mirror. I pulled over, unsure of what was going on. Suddenly, there was the old guy I had just helped.

He had called his wife and told her what happened. Told her that I turned down his offer of payment.

She apparently told him that he had better ###### well catch up to me and buy me breakfast at least. I figured that trying to argue with him that it wasn't required might offend him, so off we went to a local diner.

Like the old saying goes, One good turn deserves another ! :o

Wauw Khall! You are a regular super hero these days - not forgetting the even bigger "rescue" you helped with about a month ago with your friend in need. You might need a pink CAPE and roam Phuket to fight crime and fight for justice! :o Cheers!
