BANGKOK: -- POLICE WILL this week search the two residences of Pada Buakhao, a recently captured suspect wanted in regard to the embezzlement of Bt1.5 billion at King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Lat Krabang.

Pada - who has reportedly admitted to being involved in money transactions with the case's key fugitive suspect Kittisak Matthujad but insisted he was innocent of any crime - yesterday received his first court-ordered 12-day detention while investigators continue to pursue the case.

Police objected to a bail release for Pada, who faces charges of money laundering and colluding with corrupt officials. Crime Suppression Department deputy chief Pol Colonel Kornchai Klaikleung told reporters yesterday that when Pada was arrested at a resort at Sam Khok in Pathum Thani on Friday afternoon he had Bt120,000 and US$1,800, some documents and was driving a Chevrolet Cruze sedan.

Kornchai said police were gathering evidence so more arrest warrants could be issued.

Pada reportedly told police that he knew Kittisak for more than a year and acted as the middleman in selling Kittisak's luxurious cars including a Lamborghini sold to actor Pakorn Chatborirak via a Facebook post.

"I didn't know Pakorn personally before and I have nothing to do with Kittisak's alleged KMITL embezzlement case," he said, adding that he had many businesses in Phuket including a pub and an apartment.

During Friday's interrogation, attended by Central Investigation Bureau Acting Commissioner Pol Lt-General Prawut Thawornsiri, Pada reportedly told police he separated from his wife a long time ago and then he met Kittisak, who later became his boyfriend. He had a child with his wife.

Prawut said Pada told officers he had not been suspicious over how Kittisak made his money.

He said Pada also claimed Kittisak had a relationship with another suspect in the case, former bank manager Songklod Sriprasong.

At a press conference on Friday, Prawut said Pada travelled to Hong Kong with Kittisak but returned to Thailand alone to sell Kittisak's assets.

Pada claimed he didn't know why Kittisak needed him to sell the assets and he only recently learned that Kittisak was wanted by the authorities.

He said that while he did money transactions with Kittisak, most were cash transfers for commission fees.

The Lamborghini sold to Pakorn for Bt13.5 million was in line with its market value.

Pada said the car would be worth about Bt18 million on the "grey" market and Kittisak had used it for just three months before it was sold.

Police WILL search instead of the headline reading that police HAVE searched.

Unless the premises are being guarded anyone with keys, right of access etc can now nip round and ' tidy up ' to make things nice for the officers who are to conduct the searches.

"Unless the premises are being guarded anyone..."

...like the police perhaps?
