Police 'played a role' in South Koreans' abduction

BANGKOK: -- TWELVE senior police officers and one civilian were involved in the kidnapping of three South Korean men, a high-ranking police source said yesterday.

Ten of the police officers are attached to Metropolitan Police Division 5 and Metropolitan Police Bureau, one to the Tourism Police Division and one to the Crime Suppression Division, he said. |They range in rank from superintendent to non-commissioned levels.

The unnamed civilian works as an informant for the Tourism Police Division and he received Bt1 million from a South Korean suspect as the police officers' share in the ransom paid by the relatives of the three victims, the source added. The amount of the ransom was not specified.

The handover of the money was made at a shopping mall in the On Nut area of Bangkok and it was documented in surveillance camera footage obtained by the police, said the source.

Police have arrested Kim Song Shu, one of the two alleged kidnappers, and charged him with three criminal offences while seeking his detention yesterday through a request with the Criminal Court.

Royal Thai Police spokesman Pol Lt General Prawut Thawornsiri has identified the other alleged kidnapper as So Song Chon.

A senior CSD officer, Pol Colonel Jiraphob Phooridej, said he believed So remained in hiding in Bangkok, not in the provinces. He would find it difficult to leave Thailand because he is a wanted person and the immigration police will be watching out for him, he said.

Kim has been charged with intimidation, false imprisonment and theft. He has reportedly denied all the offences. Police said the accused man claimed to be a police officer when he allegedly gained entry into the Bangkok home of one of the three victims.

Prawut earlier said that police had no evidence that officers from MPD 5 had anything to do with the abduction, but he said the matter would be investigated fully.

Nice that they identify the foreigners involved, but not the police. In most countries there would be outrage, in Thailand there is only surprise that the cops didn't cover it all up right away.

Humm...ok. One South Korean arrested. What about the Thais? Over 10 of them, at last count. coffee1.gif

Oh, silly me. Wait, they said to their boss yesterday that they were not involved.w00t.gifw00t.gifw00t.gifw00t.gif

Yesterday the police was not involved in any way ... but that statement was made by the police and thus was unbelievable already.

Good job by the government, getting rid of all these police bastards, good job. ;-)

The way things are panning out for the RTP, the police ethics section 99 has their hands full these past few months , just goes to show , dangle that carrot and they can't help themselves, some have ( Not all ) the morals of a barnyard rat coffee1.gif

The dictionary defines 'Mafia' as a closed and organized group of people whose purpose is extortion and other criminal activity. One has to believe that this is the perfect definition of the Thai police force.

For those who rail against the military control over Thailand, remember that without their presence, there would be NOBODY with the power or authority to curb the abuses and proliferation of this institutionalized mafia here in Thailand. My hope is that the military remains in power long enough to put a sizable dent in the RTP mafia machine. My other hope is that we don't have one mafia group curtailed while another uniformed group replaces them.

Once again, the 'Royal' Thai Police show their true colors as the biggest criminal gang in Thailand.

Given their history and reputation, I would think using 'Royal' in their title would be a lese majeste offence.

It shocking (disgusting) how this article reads. If something like this happened in a normal civilized society the outrage would be poring out from every direction. Its scary this is just another normal everyday occurrence by those charged to protect and serve the community and no one (in charge) seems to have a problem with it.

The only surprise is crimes like this involving the police still make the news. It's hardly an exceptional incident for them.

there is no surprise by thai public because it is foreigners they were taking advantage of no thai's so no big deal- move on only farang nothing.

Due to the laziness of the Thai press at following a story, the news of the bent cops will slowly dissipate like morning mist, until it's forgotten, as if it never happened, no example need be made of them by a court to deter others.

...so much for enforcing the law and upholding justice....scary.....

Just goes to show once again that no crimes of this type (abduction, murder, extortion etc) occur without the involvement of the Royal Thai Police in some way, shape or form, and to assume that the "higher ups" don't know (or aren't involved by at least taking their cut) is taking naiveté to a whole new level.

Now all we need is the boss to explain his comments of yesterday except for the fact it would be too much like lack of supervision and accountability and that's a no, no.

Great isn't it when officials can say almost anything they like and there's no comeback ?

"Another uniformed group" has already replaced them. They wear green.

Really? The best? Surely if you shop around you can do better than these clowns.

A senior CSD officer, Pol Colonel Jiraphob Phooridej, said he believed So remained in hiding in Bangkok, not in the provinces. He would find it difficult to leave Thailand because he is a wanted person and the immigration police will be watching out for him, he said.

In other words: Mr. So will have to pay more to leave Thailand.

Now that's PURE THAINESS ... TWELVE senior police officers and one civilian were involved in the kidnapping of three South Korean men, a high-ranking police source said yesterday.

Conclusion .... 12 more inactive posts have to be found while the ransom money is divided up.

Any outsider would be shaking their head in complete disbelief and probably thinking this was just a script for a new book or movie ... sadly this is the true face of Thailand and Thainess.

Once again, the 'Royal' Thai Police show their true colors as the biggest criminal gang in Thailand.

Given their history and reputation, I would think using 'Royal' in their title would be a lese majeste offence.

Not quite, in this case 12 suspect officers are under investigation by the rest of the police. The entire police force is not involved in this but you are right, the RTP are showing their true colours now in that they are investigating their allegedly corrupt colleagues.

As a serious observer of the RTP, I can assure everyone that after the initial noise surrounding this event has subsided, the police officers involved will be either promoted or rewarded in some way. This happened in my neighborhood after a brutal double murder on a beach committed by a gang of rogue policemen and friends.

"...no one (in charge) seems to have a problem with it..."

Well, those who do seem to have a problem with it include the rest of the police force, including Pol Lt General Prawut Thawornsiri, who are investigating the alleged involvement of a few officers.

"Royal Thai Police spokesman Pol Lt General Prawut Thawornsiri has identified the other alleged kidnapper as So Song Chon."

so long So Song Chon... you will be tortured until you take full responsibility for these crimes...

Disband this bunch of henchmen, thieves, liars and rogues NOW!!!

"Police have arrested Kim Song Shu, one of the two alleged kidnappers..." blink.png

I count 13. Don't they know about conspiracy in Thailand?

No Police arrested.
