HTC ONE factory reset

Featured Replies

Only reaction of a click on GMAIL is a white flash. Same flash shows a click on PLAY STORE. Can use only the simple MAIL program by htc-one . Very frustrating.

I am scared to use the factory reset not knowing how to make a backup. Htc offers an account for backup. Anyone used it?

Is it reliable?

Why don't you uninstall GMail and reinstall it? The mails are stored on Google's servers after all, you won't lose them.

And check to see if there is a System Update.

I´d wish it were so simple, you can´t uninstal and re-instal Gmail.

Huh?

Huuu, I thought so too but Gmail is not even shown under apps. So how to uninstal if even the button gives only an innocent white flash?

Gmail is integrated into the OS and as such can not be removed, or if a way is found, it could break the system. I assume you did a full power off of the phone and restarted?

I did find the Gmail, was able to force stop it. Forced a restart= No change, white flash only. BTW the same flash when I hit the Play Store button , nothing.

Here in Chiang Mai I wouldn't know a place to trust a repair job

While Gmail is sometimes bundled as a 'System App' that can't be deleted or removed without root access, it CAN be UPDATED.

Gmail is listed as an app on my android phone, with the options of FORCE STOP, Uninstall Updates (rather than "Remove"), Disable, and Clear
Data, Clear Cache.

I would recommend you first locate the Gmail app in System Settings -> Apps -> (ALL)

google-gmail-gadget-22.jpg Gmail

Then press: FORCE STOP. See if it launches now.

If not, then: FORCE STOP, Clear Cache. See if it...

If not, then: FORCE STOP, Clear Cache, Clear Data. This should clear everything and you'll need to re-setup the app.

You can also enter the Google PlayStore app and lookup "Gmail App" and see if there are updates pending.

QUESTION: Is your System Clock correct?

These apps require a correct system clock for TLS security to work correctly.

Do you have the option to disable Gmail? Try Inbox (if available also from Gmail)

Now I'm really tricked out. I did all of the above GMAIL icon shows ZERO KB, And because Play Store had given me the same white flash I attempted to download a new Play Store Google search. Whereupon Google search comically reacted with... A white flash. Amen

Make sure your HTC System Clock Date/Time is correct. If it's off more than an hour, manually reset it ant try the Play Store again.

If the Date/Time is correct, then:

On the Play Store, Do a Force Stop, Clear Cache, Clear Data on the PLAY STORE.

Google Play Services may need a Clear Cache also.

If these don't work, you can, try downloading and sideloading the PlayStore. All the other Google Apps are dependent on it.

Well, I did everything as instructed, Screenshots https://www.evernote.com/shard/s99/sh/79daba12-1a58-4950-bc24-3ec8e7217966/ddf82a5db34c066338156ec071febad8 https://www.evernote.com/shard/s99/sh/88395de4-3a8e-47c8-97f3-a9810a039dc7/a4779d0b87986c231a8cf70537e85567 . Play Store restored to factory. Nothing changes, hitting play store produces white flash, same with Gmail.

The only THREE options left, are:

A. Go to Settings/Apps and scroll to ALL. Touch the menu screen in the top right corner and touch "Reset All Apps"
This 'option' might not be available on all phones -- after scrolling to ALL, hit the soft APPS/MENU button (two squares) and select "Reset App Preferences".
Test if you have access to the Google Play Store.

*** IF you have any unsaved data like photos that you want to preserve you need to move them off the device BEFORE attempting either of these steps.

B. Remove the Google Device Account, then Re-establish the account, test if you have access to Google Play Store

C. Perform a Factory Reset, setup the phone from scratch, test if you have access to Google Play Store

Both later options will remove all downloaded apps. The option "C" will also ERASE all Phone Data. Remember to back up data/images before trying either.

Rich, I needed a break :-)) turned my attention to more pleasant human substances. Before I do your tricks I will report new observations, just to put all facts on the table, not on a holy Sunday though.

You can perform a factory reset in Android by the following two methods:

Method 1: Factory Reset from the Device

Enter "Settings" > "Back up and Reset" > "Factory data reset", and do a factory reset.

Method 2: Factory Reset A in Recovery Mode

You can turn off your device, press "Power" + "Volume +", or "Home" + "Back" to enter Recovery Mode, then select "Wipe date/factory reset" in the option menu thus your Android is in the factory reset process.
Of course, the most important thing are backing up your phone data. I think you'd better turn to some professional data tool like Android Transfer by RecoveryAndroid. Try getting one and installing on PC. Then you can connect your device to computer and migrate data from Android to PC with simple one click.
Hope this will help.
