New Petchaburi Administrative Court The White House is Open for Business

The Administrative Court of Phetchaburi is now open, with jurisdiction for administrative cases in Phetchaburi, Prachuab Khirikhan, Ratchaburi and Samut Songkhram Provinces. On 19 January 2015, the Chair of the Supreme Administrative Court, Dr. Hassawuth Withitwiriyakul attended the opening ceremony. The event was also attended by many distinguished guests including the Deputy Chair of the Supreme Administrative Court Mr. Piya Patangtha, the Director General of the Administrative Court of Songkhla and Acting Director General of the Administrative Court of Phetchaburi Mr. Amphol Charoencheewin, Judges of the Court, the Phetchaburi and Prachuab Khirikhan Governors and the Mayor of ChaAm. As we have previously reported, the Administrative Court’s main jurisdiction is to settle litigation between private citizens and the State; including government ministries, departments and independent agencies.

Although in no way limited to matters related to the environment, this is an area that the Administrative Court has chalked up its greatest successes on behalf of citizens hurt by sins of omission or commission by state agencies. The Administrative Court’s main jurisdiction is to settle litigation between private citizens and the State; including government ministries, departments and independent agencies. After the opening ceremony, Dr. Hassawuth told the media that the first Administrative Court was opened in 2001. The Courts are considered to be crucial for Thai people. There are nine open based in Chiang Mai, Songkhla, Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen, Phitsanulok, Rayong, Nakhon Sri Thammarat, U-don Thani and U-bol Ratchathani, apart from the headquarters in Bangkok. The number of legal cases under the Administrative Court’s responsibility increases every year.

The Petchaburi Court was established to reduce the workload of the headquarters and promote the convenient access to legal proceedings of local people. The jurisdiction is founded by Article 8 of the Act of Establishment of Administrative Court and the Legal Proceedings of Administrative Cases of B.E. 2542 (1999). Dr. Hassawuth said that people in the four provinces would now have ready access to legal cases and persecution with this convenient location in Cha-Am. There are forty staff available to deal with cases presented. There are also six Judges to deal with legal cases under this jurisdiction. They are supervised by Mr. Amphol Charoencheewin and the Director Mr. Chalermsak Lamaikhae. The contact phone number is 032 709 400.
