Scimming BKK ATM ?

Featured Replies

Not sure but today I was at the BKK atm on Sai Juan Rawai when I noticed that my card was difficult to retrieve. On inspection I saw that the slot was not the same as the 2 other atm's.

I don't know what those card readers look like but I had the impression something was inserted.

Called the local branch and tourist police but they gave me the impression that they did not really care, so just in case I'm right be careful !

I hope you immediately changed the PIN at another ATM?

Why not try remove the card hopper. I pull and yank at them every time I use one now. People behind me give me a weird look but I don't care.

that's what I do also. So far so good (lucky?)

On my last visa run to Phnom Penh - Cambodia, I used an ATM where you could give a PIN number or your fingerprint.

Obviously, the bank didn't have my fingerprint, and I entered my PIN, but the technology is being used next door.

I now have a BKK bank chipped card.... Slightly inconvenient as it can only be used at a BKK Bank ATM.... Is it safe from these skimming devices?

"Is it safe from these skimming devices?" - there are RFID "sniffers."

Plenty of info on the net about them. This is a random one off You Tube.

Check this one out. The theives can use your own smart phone to transmit the data of your own credit card chip.

you can reduce the risk dramatically if you only use ATMs inside banks or right next to busy banks or in Shopping Malls where ATMs are only accessible during opening hours.

Shady characters will always go for the easiest and least risky target.

admittedly, if you party yourself silly at Bangla Road on a Friday night and are running out of cash, this option might not apply.....
