I have been a a member here on Thaivisa for a quarter of my life. Have had over 5500 posts. Some have been found useful, others have riled people up. I have tried to be the best netizen I could be in this time, poorly giving back a fraction of what I have been able to take away.

But everything follows a pattern; birth growth and death. As recently I have felt that the time of my sojourn on TV has been winding down, I believe that it's only fair that in a last burst of posting life I explain why.

When I first started posting I was both new to Thailand and riding (discounting 2 summers on a Motobecane moped). Having limited time in Thailand due to work schedule I picked the brains of many notable posters; most of which have also departed. I don't know the reasons for all of the leavings, but each one was an acute loss whether the current posters realise it or not.

Life also grows tedious answering the same questions over and over (NO it does not make sense to try and import a motorcycle...seriously forget about it). Add in the fact that stamping out one troll simply means another arises to take their place is discouraging. A rise in the "I am an expert and if you don't agree with me I will not discuss it but resort to immature comments" is another issue.

I used to also get news from this site. Now a days I can get it faster elsewhere without the often juvenile discussions that seem to pop up. Everyone knows I can take as well as I gives so long as it doesn't descend into the personal, but there sure does seem to be a lot of petty things going on.

So I strike out to new territory. Not claiming that I'll deactivate my account nor disregard pms...bit will not take an active role here. I wish the best for this that remain and leave with the famous quote.

I dont know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

Well, that's not good news, Dave- while new trolls quickly arrive to take the place of departed ones, looney number-crunching free-thinkers like you are rarer birds.

I completely understand how you feel, though...

Hey, at times we need to take a break from what we do. Nothing has to be for life, interests grow, mature and then end, as you said. Appreciated your straightforward approach and wish you the best in riding as in the other things that you value.

Well that is bad news Dave, sad to see you go despite I having difficulties understanding your refined language at times. rolleyes.gif

Why don't you stick around and only post when you fell like it and ignore the trolls and other irritating posters.

Bike forum here can't be a biker specialist forum, heaps of people come over to Thailand for retirement or work and many are new to 2 wheelers so their questions might sound naive or ignorant at times but they also have the right to be here and us here with experience riding bikes in Thailand should try helping them as much we can.

After I post I'm done with the topic and don't read it again. I may be getting abused daily but I wouldn't even know and as such don't care.

I also post things that will annoy some people, but I'm not here to get into arguments just to stir some objective thought and plant a seed or two. I don't care if people agree or not.

Those sick of online slugfests could consider a similar approach, too easy to get sucked into all that negativity. Been there done that, waste of energy.

Sorry to read this but appreciate that you wrote down your reasoning for leaving. Haven't been posting in this forum very long but been a lurker for a while.

Always appreciated your fact and logic based contributions with your knowledge of physics. You'll be another acute loss.

Forum software like the one TV uses is fundamentally broken when it comes to moderation and filtering of content. Note I am not talking about Mods or moderation practices, just the software and it's limitations.

Good luck in your future journeys and I hope we'll cross roads sometime.

No need to post every day, or open new threads every second day. Take a break. And one day you may want to post again. Or not. Not so important. Relax and enjoy :)

No one of us old timers want to see you go, but your choice.

And honestly I've been having similar feelings recently so I understand.

I dont know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

Bilbo?

I haven't been posting on here for a long time but I have to say I've found your posts very informative. Definitely understand, I get sick of internet drama pretty easily myself. That's the reason I spend more time on this section of the forum than the rest of TV combined... it's mostly more informative/lower grief. I see what you mean about the direction of things though. Good luck in the future.

you dont need to go Dave. i understand ur frustration of what happening now on these forums but just bear with it. I value ur opinion.

I have a feeling the TV bike section will become like the thai language section... All the good posters eventually leave....and pop up in other forums that are more specific. or even FB groups because forums are a bit old hat these days.

Thank you for your contribution to TV

You will be missed

Exactly! I only reply to posts that interest me and when it starts to get irritating I leave, the topic that is, not the forum. After all trolls and fleas need an audience/respondent.

Anyway, my guess is that you will be the new Frank Sinatra.

I haven't noticed that many trolls.

I see genuine stupidity sometimes.

Cognitive dissonance for sure.

Such is the human condition.

Doesn't bother me.

As the Dali Lama says:

5 5 5 5 5

Come back when you are ready and have a happy birthday tomorrow.

Hi Dave

Sorry to hear you are feeling burnt out...

You are the Spock(RIP) of this forum. We need logic here as much as passion...

I will still be here and there now and again until I finally pop my clogs and switch off the motorbike for the last time.

I appreciated your helpful posts. I have to disagree about the debates that follow some OPs. I love a good argument which is often more interesting than the topic.

It is unlikely that there will be any more such arguments on this forum for various reasons.

There will be! Don't argue about that!

Don't think so mate. All the argumentative bullies are either gone or are going. This will be a nice family forum full of head nodders.

You see?!?! You're arguing already!

You see?!?! You're arguing already!

Read my post again.... hahahahaha

I understand the reasons for leaving this forum - the Roadcraft Taliban have turned every thread into a pointless argument between the self appointed 'expert' and amateur Troll vs all the rest of us who live in the real world.

Tedious.

I thought this guy had left?

Let it go boys, he isn't Frank Sinatra really.

Well, if you gotta go you gotta go! The forum does get tiring when you see the same inane questions being asked when a search would provide the answers from old threads. And the overlords canning threads or individual posts gets tedious after a while. I get posts removed from time to time because I don't conform to some standard even though I don't as a rule bust anyones balls so to speak.

But we all know it's not a free speech forum so there there is no use complaining. We put up with it or we stop posting!

Best of luck at your new port of call.
