Question on extending 1 year license

Featured Replies

Good Day All

I have a 1 year license for both a car and a motorbike that expires in May 28. I like to extend it to the 5 years

but I am leaving in April to go home for 2 or 3 months

I want to know if I can extend to the 5 years either before I go, or when I return. Just not sure of the rules for early extending or late extending

Can someone enlighten me on it?

thanks

According to the DLT website you can apply for the new upgraded licence up to one year after the expiry date without a problem. Any later and you are likely to need to do more tests. Link is here:

I have seen it mentioned that upgrade prior to expiry is possible up to two months before the expiry date. That may vary from one office to another. May be best to go along to your local office and enquire. Or other posters may have up to date info if you indicate your location.

great that is good I will do it when I get back, thanks for that

can do 2 moths prior to expiry

Not if this is his first license. You have to have had a license for 1 year before you can apply for the 5 year license.
