HUA HIN:- The director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), in collaboration with Wat Huay Mongkhol Buddhist monastery, will make amulets of Luang Pu Thuad, one of the most well-known Buddhist monks of Thailand, and distribute them to 57 TAT offices around the world. The TAT director also announced that Thai tourism in 2015 would enjoy many booming periods.
The TAT director Mr. Thawatchai Aranyik told Hua Hin Today that, before he retired in October, 2015, he had asked for cooperation from Venerable Phra Khru Phairot from Wat Huay Mongkhol to make 60 5-inch amulets of Luang Pu Thuad in commemoration to his retirement. 57 of them will be distributed to TAT offices in Scandinavian Europe, Asia and Thailand as many Thai people pay respect to Luang Pu Thuad. Apart from serving as a moral support for Thai people in Thailand and overseas, the amulets will help promote Buddhism outside the country as well. Besides Wat Huay Mongkhol which takes part in this project, TAT is receiving support from private and public organizations in Hua Hin, namely Hua Hin District Office, Tourism Business Association of Cha-Am and Hua Hin, Rotary Club Hua Hin and Lions Club Hua Hin.
In terms of tourism in Thailand this year, Mr. Thawatchai said many tourists had kept coming to Thailand since November, 2014. Hua Hin, Pattaya, Phuket and Chiang Mai are still much favored by foreigners, especially those Scandinavian Europe and Russian. Even though Russia is now facing economic and political crises, Russian people who can afford travelling overseas still choose Thailand as their holiday destination. “I believe that, in this year, Thailand will earn a hundred thousand million Baht from tourism business, because, despite existing political problems, foreigners still want to come here as we are famous for safety standard, hospitality, fine cuisine, and natural wonders,” added Mr. Thawatchai.
Finally, the TAT director would like Thai people, particularly hoteliers, guesthouse owners, restaurateurs, drivers and tour guides, to give foreign visitors a warm welcome. More importantly, he asked Thai people not to take any advantage on tourists. In doing so, more foreign visitors will come here, thus helping local Thai business to prosper.

What is the purpose of giving these Amulets to TAT offices overseas ?

Is this some type of "good luck" program, so that the TAT offices can increase tourism due to the possession of "lucky Amulets"

Or is this to ward off "bad tourists" from visiting

If I apply for a tourist visa to say, Italy, am I going to be given a cross ?

Who comes up with these hair brained schemes ?
