Nonthaburi gold shop robbery gang leader arrested in Uttaradit



BANGKOK: -- A Myanmar migrant worker alleged to lead a robbery of a gold shop in Nonthaburi on Sunday and escaped with 14 million baht worth of gold was arrested last night in Uttaradit province.

Identified only as Chai, 27, he was apprehended by soldiers and police at a road checkpoint at 10.00 pm while trying to escape in a van he rented to take him and his wife to Chiang Rai.

There are seven migrant workers in the van when it was stopped for search last night at a road checkpoint.

Some robbed gold ornaments were also found in his suitcase.

He and his wife were questioned and would be escorted back to Nonthaburi to face charge.

Earlier on Monday a combined force of police from Nonthaburi and Chonburi raided a construction camp in Tambon Nong Prue of Bang Lamung district of Chonburi and arrested four Myanmar migrant workers in connection with a gold shop robbery in Bang Buathong district of Nonthaburi province on Sunday.

A number of gold ornament they robbed from the Yaowaraj goldshop were retrieved.

But the robbery gang leader identified as Chai, a hill tribe worker from the North has narrowly escaped before police raid.

All were accused of robbing Yaowaraj goldshop in Bang Buathong district of Nonthaburi and escaped with 14 million baht worth of gold ornaments which included 502 gold necklaces, 22 gold wrist laces, and a mobile phone.
