PHUKET: A 22-year-old man who ran a checkpoint on Wiset Rd, Rawai, this morning (March 10) was chased down and arrested when he was found to be carrying 500 grams of marijuana.

The chase began when Somsak Tamutuk of Rawai busted through the checkpoint in front of the 7-Eleven store in Baan Bangkontee on Wiset Rd at about 10am.

After catching him police searched his bag and found the 500g. They later searched his home and found another 1.5 kilos, for a total of 2 kilos.

Somsak admitted to police that he had bought the two kilos of dope from a friend in Sakon Nakhon for B20,000 a kilo and was planning to sell it for double that price in Phuket.

He was taken to Chalong Police Station and charged with illegal possession of a Category 5 drug with intent to sell.
