Man nabbed for running intimidation racket
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Police have arrested a man for allegedly intimidating seven Songkhla-based businessmen into giving him Bt30 million in exchange for keeping quiet about them evading tax. He also allegedly had the businessmen give him a shop house worth around Bt16 million.

The Crime Suppression Division (CSD) arrested Uthai Songsomphan, 51, in Sadao district on Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, deputy CSD chief Pol Colonel Akkharadej Phimonsri said the seven businessmen would be charged with tax evasion if the information about them evading tax can be proved.

Uthai, also known as Chinnakorn, leads a Phatthalung-based gang that calls itself "Buffalo Racket", the officer said. CSD will also look into Uthai's claims that a retired Army general was backing his racket.

Any wonder the cops are mad at him.......!

Encroaching on their territory ................and being successful...!!!

We are Buffaloes, targeting Buffaloes. We are the "Buffalo Racket" gang!

They must have been evading a bloody lot of tax. How would that be possible?

We see more and more of these things coming to light now, every day there is new corruption being uncovered and people arrested right up to senior cops and monks.

Makes me wonder why none of this was detected during the last administration, after all they had super sleuths like Chalerm and Tarit on the job and hand picked police chiefs, heck one even had his badge of rank pinned on him by the party owner.

But I suppose the defenders of democracy could be right, its all a witch hunt, for after all these things would have been forgiven under the amnesty bill and corruption would no longer have existed.

Now that opportunity for reconciliation has been missed. The military has a lot to answer for.

Give someone 30 million to "keep quiet" about tax? Haha add it to "only in Thailand" long list!

"Meanwhile, deputy CSD chief Pol Colonel Akkharadej Phimonsri said the seven businessmen would be charged with tax evasion if the information about them evading tax can be proved."

Well considering an arrest has been made on the basis he was extorting money from the businessmen because they were evading tax, this shouldn't be too difficult.

Otherwise there are no grounds for arresting him.
