Thailand, Malaysia discuss Olympic aspirations

Pie in the sky stuff again! This Country will never hold sway enough to host anything like this! And even if they did, they would mess it up. Thailand will always be a minnow Asian country. Last Asian country to hold the Olympics? Seoul!

While I agree Thailand does not have the infrastructure to host this event, I believe the last Asian country to host an Olympics was China a few years ago. Japan will host in 2020.

I think it was China in 2008.

The Olympics as they exist are completely incongruent with the Olympic ideal an international scandal, should be banned.

Absolutely agree. If the Olympics are to continue, then pick a site, have all participant countries confribute financially to the site construction and once built, hold the Olympics at that location for ever after.

The massive waste that occurs every 4 years is rediculous.

Way back in the 1990's the city of Manchester spent 5.5 million GBP (275 million Baht) on their unsuccessful bid for the 2000 Olympic Games.

With that sort of money sloshing around it is irrelevant whether or not the bid is successful. Lawyers, consultants, PR companies, and bent politicians will all be winners.

Thailand would be the first host not to win a medal.

if they don't then there would be a lot of international athletes rounded up for Attitude adjustment.

At least this is just the usual far fetched wishful thinking because, given other announcements without foundation, it wouldn't have been a surprise for this to have been presented as a virtual done deal.
