The scene of the bombing in front of Baan Pa Ko school in Thepha district in Songkhla province, 17 March 2014.

SONGKHLA — A roadside bomb injured a police officer who was guarding a school in southern Thailand, where Islamic insurgents regularly stage attacks on Thai authorities and public schools.

Police say the bomb exploded at 7:40 am in front of Baan Pa Ko school in Thepha district, apparently targeting a group of police officers who were stationed to protect teachers at the school.

The blast injured one police officer and damaged a police vehicle, according to police reports.

Although security officers have not confirmed the motive of the attack, local Islamic separatists frequently attack public school teachers in the region, presumably because they are viewed as instruments of the Thai Buddhist state.

Approximately 180 school teachers have been killed since violence broke out in early 2004. Many teachers now travel with a large convoy of bodyguards and soldiers.

This will never stop as long as Buddhism is part of the public school curriculum.

Will never stop so long as anything other than Islam is included. Not quite the same thing.

Criminals masquerading as "freedom fighter".

Round them all up and ship them off to IS? IS have some opponents over there that would love to give them an early meeting with the 70 odd "virgins" whistling.gif

Apart from talk-fests, successive Thai governments are not doing anything about the problem! Perhaps if it does not happen in Bangkok then it is not happening? Myopia is a word that comes to mind coffee1.gif

Given the reasons, what would you suggest?

There will be no end to this Islamic attack on schools. The Thai Government needs to crack down on these extremist. Flush them out into the open, and kick them out of the country period. Preferably by air cargo, push them off the plane at 23000, no parachute. They want control of the area, and will be persistent. Stop appeasing them Little, by little they will get what they want......and as the number in crease through indoctrination and stupidity. they will in time take over Bangkok, and the country. I will not see it in my life time, but it is bound to happen! Then watch the destruction of Watt's and Buddhist Religion. .......Heed the warning, There coming!

Read the second sentence! But, all flippant remarks aside, if the poms could isolate the communists in Malaysia years ago until they were of no further real trouble perhaps Thai governments could consider using (adapting) similar tactics? I am not the Government but I do have sympathy for the approximately 7000 killed (and their families) in the past 10 years without any signs of real success in dealing with the problem! That is the job of Government. Talking NEVER stopped criminals from carry out their activities. Do you have a suggestion or are you being a "devils advocate"? The world is full of people happy to state why something cannot be done rather than finding ways of doing something! coffee1.gif Neville Chamberlain tried appeasement!

Edit: Spelling error

As I have said before the mooslums would be happier in Malaysia. I am sure the government could encourage them to head South of the Border down Malaysia way. Encourage them in a convincing way....like tell em if they don't go they will be shot down like a rabid dog.

Thailand annexed this part of the country, and there has been trouble ever since. What makes me most suspicious is this -- "the south is a stronghold of the democrats". really, so all these Muslims are voting for a Hi-so china thai eleite in bangkok.

Now that's vote buying.

The solution is education which is exactly what this thread is about. 2015 and people have to have an armed escort in order to teach children! So sad.

I do not disagree, but it is not going to solve the killings in the short term. 10 years and about 7000 killed. How many more will be sacrificed before education "solves" the problem? Criminals suddenly being "rehabilitated"? I don't think so, unfortunately. If one of those killed were of your family or friends, would you be so patient as to allow the current situation to continue? The country has difficulty in properly educating its children, is it going to be easy/easier to re-educate criminals? My simple guess would be NO. coffee1.gif

There is no short term solution though I have to agree with your point on the standard of education here.
