We currently have IPM satellite which has proven to be pretty ordinary. Most of the English channels are repeats, there's no guide or idea when programs or movies start etc. We got some free version off my missus uncle paid 2000 baht for the box I think. We are locked into one internet provider here as they are the only ones we receive any kind of speed but I assume Satellite is available anywhere from the sky?

Can anyone help or have any suggestions? I dont mind paying a monthly fee if we have more options. The uncle (satellite installer) didn't give us the option at the time just assumed we wanted cheap (and nasty)

All the satellite boxes provide the free-to-air/freeview (FTA/FV) channels available over satellite to Thailand.

Many of the satellite service providers also sell their own box what work only with their subscription packages, and will include the most basic of the subscription packages with the purchase of their set top boxes. But for English content, you'll be looking for the most expensive subscription packages they provide.

Providing Electronic Program Guides (EPG) seems to be a foreign concept to them.

You could also try buying a large high-gain sat dish and looking for program content available on the other Asian Birds (satellites), but again the content is usually encrypted and requires a set-top-box from the foreign-based content provider to view.

TRUEvisions is really the only satellite service provider to offer anything worth watching in English, and it requires paying for their top subscription packages to get, but even they repeat the hell out of everything except live sports.

If you want English content, I would suggest becoming your own service provider and utilize the Internet and a few specialty applications to BOTH download programs in the background to watch later, AND watch via live or instant streaming.

Many members here have created systems and methods for themselves that give them a plethora of foreign-language TV/Movie/News and Live Sports content using consumer set top boxes (Android TV, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Google Chromecast, etc) and with added software transformed them into full-feature media centers.

I have an IPM box. Love it. But it's really for the Thai Family to easily watch Thai-language programs off Thaicom and NS6 satellites. A Satellite set top box is dead easy for everyone to operate and flip through the channels looking for something inane to distract or passively entertain them. Otherwise we use an android box to watch a movie on YouTube or a pre-downloaded torrent video off my computer.

As an Expat Aussie in Isaan, I did lots of research on possible satelite solutions,to receive English and especially Australian content. I noticed that the Australian digital government (fully filtered and censored) 19 channel VAST system, used a satelite that had a footprint extending into Southern China, which seemed to cover NE Thailand, so decided to try a larger dish and see if I could get the 19 Australian "free to air" broadcast channels.

I purchased a large dish and installed it, and brought a VAST pre-programed working receiver with access card from Australia. I set it up to find a RED bar...indicating blocked signal. With further research I discovered that the Australian VAST system with 19 free to Air Channels has the capability to be received in NE Thailand, however the Australian Government has commercial agreements (ie government policy controlled by the Media Moguls) not to broadcast into Thailand, and has forced the satelite provider to mask signals into Thailand.

I fear they are afraid the Thais might learn to speak English by watching Australian programs in English, and to read English by reading the English text translations on the three SBS multicultural channels included.

On the up side it does protect the Thais from the multitude of soapy crap (especially the feral soapies that make many Australians cringe!) on these channels

How fast is your internet up there?? we use a uk tv box that comes through the internet.

Have pretty good speed but because of my area we are limited to AIS and it seems their top package is 12GB for 800 baht which for what you get I think is pretty expensive. I got 100gb in Australia for 1500 THB. I though internet was cheap in Asia. Anyway, like I said not sure if True etc have better packages but we're stuck with AIS and we eat through 12GB pretty fast. Same with Truevision internet. Looks good but 2300THB a month I think is pretty steep. Same price Foxtel Australia. I've retired at 50 and have a bit of money behind me but need to make it spin out too. I was tryng to avoid chaining myself to all the monthly commitments we have in farangland like phone, internet, satellite, health, insurances etc. Its cheap living here for sure but you start living like a farang and many things can be as expensive as living in Australia if not moreso. Lucky water, power, food and rates are nearly negligable.

Plans range from 490/mth to 2155/mth, and "it just works".

If you're limited to only 3G for your internet, it will absolutely be the cheapest way for you to watch HD TV in English.

Yeah understand not internet but from what I understand for farang unless u get the full platinum 2200 baht it's not worth it. Just seems to expensive to me

720P HD IPTV uses an average of 5mbps, which equates to around 2.2GB/hour - that's only 16 hours of viewing from 2400 Baht (3x800) worth of 3G data.

I think the question is, can you afford not to go Truevisions?

When you say you have Internet, you really should state you have "Mobile Internet".

Standard Internet delivered over Phone Lines, Fiber, or even wireless (ie: AIS AirNet, TOT WiNet) is unlimited download.

Mobile Internet, not so much.

Have you checked to see if Copper, Fiber, or Wireless (AIS AirNet or TOT WiNet) delivered Internet might be available in your area?

Only 2mbps = terrible picture quality, guaranteed. There's no magic.

MaigeTV HD streams use anywhere from 3mbps to 15mbps (variable bitrate), with an avg of 5 mbps. I've been using it for more than 2 years, I know

PS: MaigeTV renewals only cost USD $82/yr, if purchased from the right vendor

PSS: All these "HD" IPTV optiions are only (very lossy) 720P at best. Truevisions HD is 1080i, and very clearly superior.
