AIS 1- Call: Can I block SMS from being received?

I am on AIS 1 2 Call pay as you go and I was wondering if it is possible to block/stop all text messages?

If yes how do I do this and would I be able to reverse this so I can receive test messages again at a later date?

Also is it possible to block ONLY text messages from international numbers but still receive text messages from Thai numbers only?

Thank you all in advance for your help.

Blocking all incoming sms used to be possible by

Calling *35*blocking password*16#

Cancel was #35*password*16#

Default blocking password is 0000, it's the same password that is used e.g. to block all incoming calls by dialling *35*password#

About 4 years ago AIS decided that they wouldn't encourage this anymore.

It was deleted from the staff's manual, so everybody in the call center told me that there is no way to do it and that *35*pw*16# is not a valid USSD code. But actually it still worked.

I am not sure whether it still works today. And i don't know whether it works in AIS 3G.

Just try.

Thanks for this information! wai.gif

I've added it to my list of AIS USSD Codes (attached) that I've complied because AIS doesn't have a complied list of USSD Codes.

Are you aware of the fact that some USSD codes may be not the same in AIS and AIS 3G?

For example, to get 30 free minutes of usage valid for 5 days it is *500*9# in AIS and AIS 3G - or *777*30# in AIS 3G only

No, I haven't seen that before. I know there are differences in USSD codes for AIS prepaid (12Call) and AIS postpaid.

I didn't list the differences as I don't have an AIS 12Call SIM. AIS postpaid works for best for me, as I don't have to topups all the time and AIS offers more promotions.

I compiled the list, as I haven't seen an accurate source with a complete list of AIS USSD Codes. AIS has the USSD codes on various different web pages and literature. There are some codes they don't promote or advertise. I picked up some USSD codes from Expat forums, but found a lot of them that didn't work. Maybe it's because of the differences in SIMs?

Regarding the free minutes of usage you mentioned, is there a charge to get them by dialing the codes you mentioned? If so, what is the charge? I would like to add them to the list once I know more about the details.

The reason I ask is because, by dialing *500*1, it's supposed to give 25 minutes of calling time, which is valid for 48 hours and has a charge of 20 Baht associated with it.

^^ Yep, similar. AIS Mao Mao Service *500 codes (see list) have charges associated with them.

Not "Free" minutes, the *500*xyz# Mao Mao codes are call-plan promotions that you pre-pay to receive.

The AIS 3G Post-Paid Smart Easy *777 codes (see list)

The AIS 3G Add-on Data Packages *777 codes (see list)

Thank you uhuh for your input and RichCor for you links! wai.gif

I've updated my listing based on your inputs, it's attached to this post.

uhuh, I didn't add the Mao Mao Service *500*9# USSD code as it's not documented very clearly in the Mao Mao Service link which RichCor provided. In fact, it's confusing! Probably lost in translation. crazy.gif

I didn't change the *777# USSD code '.Promotions' entry as the *777*30# wasn't defined in the *777 links which RichCor provided. Besides that, the intention wasn't intended to show all the AIS USSD promotional service codes for subscribing or canceling the overwhelming list of promotional plans! (The AIS staff have difficulty keeping up with them too!) I did take up your suggestion that some USSD codes are in different (but similar) for various SIMs and account types and noted it in the list. Thanks for you suggestion!

I did add the other Mao Mao Service codes in the link. Considering they'd be helpful for short-term visitors to Thailand. I also cleaned up some other ambiguities and grammar that I noticed wasn't clear.

Actually,i use the USSD codes *500*9# and *777*30# for another reason: it is an easy way to extend the validity of a SIM card without adding more credit.

I get those 30 minutes, but i also extend the validity of the SIM by 30 days.

It is possible to do it several times at once: eg using this USSD code 3 times gives you 90 minutes and 90 days validity.

Okay, that seems to make a little more sense. Your saying by using those USSD codes you get 30 minutes that are valid for 5 days and it extends your validity for 30 days. Really? Why mention the 5 days validity at all? It doesn't make sense, but then again TIT! laugh.png

Does that mean in the end you get 35 or 30 days validity for those 30 minutes?

Just to clarify, regarding the promotional features of using *500*9# or *777*30# AIS USSD codes,

From the AIS Call Center FaceBook page:

How to extend validity of AIS-One-2 Call prepaid?

AIS Call Center Thank for your message Mr. Meel. You can extend validity by two methods; first, you can top up with minimum amount 50 Baht and get validity extend for 30 days or another is to subscribe Mao Mao 30 Baht/package to extend 30 days. Besides package subscription 30 Baht, you will get free 30 minutes for local call within 5 days (the free minute is only using in Thailand). You can dial *500*9# (for AIS One-2-Call) or *777*30# (for AIS 3G One-2-Call) even you are in Thailand or oversea (the operator should be supported with USSD code).

Please be noted that your mobile number status should be activate to subscribe Mao Mao 30. If the status is Suspend, you should top up to make the status activate first.

So it's a combo promotional code. Use the code, an in addition to extending your current validity an additional 30 days you also receive 30 minutes of domestic call credits valid for the next 5 days.

Sign up for Mao Mao will not result in extended validity, except a 30-Baht package which will extend validity period by 30 days.

Thanks so much for clarifying these two USSD codes! wai.gif

I didn't realize the AIS accounting system was capable of maintaining a separate validity for those 30 promotional minutes.

I've decided not to add these two USSD codes to my AIS USSD Codes list. I don't use AIS pre-paid (12Call). My SIMS are all post-paid accounts. My list does not attempt to document the 12Call promotional plans. The AIS promotions change frequently. It would take too much of my time to keep up with them. The list is not intended to be a public list of all the AIS USSD codes.

I've only added the very basic 12Call USSD codes for friends who just visit Thailand from time to time. They aren't concerned about validity. They often use up their minutes before the validity expires. As you mentioned, a Top-up of just 50 Baht, extends the validity by 30 days.

They usually get tired of Thailand after a few weeks. They just get a new 12Call SIM at 7-11 when they come to Thailand. They have no reason to keep the previous numbers! It's often better that contacts they meet while on previous visits to Thailand don't know how to contact them when they come again.

They all have smart phones. For the contacts they intended to keep in contact with, they just add them to the Line app which is installed on their phones. Prior to them leaving for Thailand, I just e-mail the list to them. They then put the list on their phones to act as a handy reference while they are visiting here. That's why the list is in a PDF format. It can be viewed on most smart phones!
