CDC Chairman: None of 'Five Rivers' plans to hold on to power

BANGKOK, 13 April 2015 (NNT) - The Chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee has assured that no council or committee set up after the latest coup is intended to hold on to power after the reform.

CDC Chairman Borwornsak Uwanno said that all 315 sections in the first draft of the new Constitution are now ready for review although they are not really complete until after the secretary-general of the Council of State finishes the verification of all details.

Mr. Borwornsak said that the completion of the checking of the first draft charter is set on April 17 while the public release is scheduled on April 27.

He stated that what the public will learn from the draft charter is the intents of the new Constitution, which include the empowering of the people, clean politics, social justice and peace.

The CDC Chairman also said that the duties of the National Reform Council and the CDC that will last until the first meeting of the House of Representatives under the new charter are not an attempt to stay in power but to keep the continuation of all works.

He added that there remains no signal from anyone that any of the Five Rivers, which are the NRC, the CDC, the National Legislative Assembly, the Cabinet and the National Council for Peace and Order, is planning to stay in office beyond the agreed-upon timeframe.

No, they will just be appointed in the numerous committees and councils they will create.

No signal that anyone is planning to stay in office is meaningless.

Last year there was a very clear signal there would be no coup and that a certain gentleman didn't want to be PM, look how that turned out.

Oh, really?

June 2014

Prayuth said in televised speech that a general election would be held around three months after the adoption of the constitution.

Feb 2015

At the same press conference, Gen Prayut thanked Japan for its concern and reiterated the same message he had given earlier to the Japanese business federation Keidanren– that elections would be held at the end of this year or early 2016.

March 2015

He [Prayut] said if the Constitution Drafting Committee finishes the draft charter, but conflicts remain unsolved and could not lead to election, then election might not held as is earlier intended.

March 25 2015

"If the situation remains like this I can tell you that I will hold on to power for a long time," he said after denouncing those who criticise the country's lack of democratic progress. "Why is there all this fuss about elections?" he also asked. "(If there's no election) will anyone die?"

What's with the five rivers? Is this cash flow up and down stream, and tributary directions?
