Live Concert and Foaming Ban at Songkran Party Met With Protests

Featured Replies

Protestors hit the streets on Monday to voice their concerns of banning a live concert and foam party at this year’s Songkran festival. The protestors were seen on U-Thong road and included 100 youths and vendors.

The group was heading to the provincial hall with the intent of submitting a letter of protest. The protest’s leader, Somachai Sangthian states that the concert stage has been a part of Songkran for years and is a main venue for Songkran in the region. The concert is a major draw for younger generations that are often seen dancing on the streets.

Vendors that joined in on the protests state that without the concert, their incomes will suffer. Upon reaching provincial hall, Pol Col Phumisit Nawang met with the protestors for over an hour before the group left.

A compromise was reached as a result. While Pol Col Nawang is not allowed to lift the ban because it was put in place by the National Council for Peace and Order, he states that organizers can use loud speakers to play music and vendors can remain on the streets to sell food and drinks. Alcohol is prohibited as well as provocative and obscene activities by revelers.

Might as well stay at home then cheesy.gif

Wouldn't it be accepted journalistic standard to mention that this occurred in Ayutthaya, and that the residents of that city consider U-Thong Road to be their equivalent of KSR?

Whoa! 100 youths protesting. Better bow to their wishes before there's real trouble. Find another venue!

Maybe they won't get to see another Songkran Festival whistling.gif

What is a foam party?

What is a foam party?

I think it has something to do with a girl, a tub of water and lots of soap.
