BANGKOK: -- Land transport department says a total of 2,046 public buses were detected speeding during the past six days of the Songkran festival from April 9-14.

The department’s director-general Theerapong Rodprasert said land transport officials monitored driving of 32,359 public buses during the period from April 9-14 vehicles, and found 2,046 of them speeding.

During the period officials also inspected the working condition of a total of 85,484 public buses.

They found 231 of them were not in good condition or not fully prepared for service. Officials have ordered operators to replace 32 buses immediately, he said.

Operators were also told to fix the problems of these buses which need minor repairs before they would be allowed to put in service, he said.

Besides, officials also found 176 drivers of these buses were not in the condition to drive safely and that operators were ordered to replace all these drivers immediately.

Wow, they just realised that public buses are speeding.........

Did they notice, by any chance, them driving on the right hand lane?

And what are they going to do about that for the rest of the year?

Nothing as usual?

Does this mean that drivers and their companies can now relax until the New Year holidays ?

So much is made over safety etc for the main holiday periods and forgotten about for the rest of the year.

And who said that Thais work inefficient, if they are able to check eighty five thousand buses in just 6 days.

It's pretty obvious that Sisaket wasn't included. They wouldn't even find 25 excellent drivers. How do you replace drivers immediately? It took my wife only two years to find out that we've got a five gear box.

So what are you going to do about it? Just tell the operators to fox/fix the problems? Order 'MINOR' repairs.

Another knows >deleted<k all and hasn't got a clue what to do. We discover each day these school mates who really never paid attention, but because they have a few nice badges are in highly paid positions not knowing what to do. Orders.. orders.. but not a single legal case ensued.

Makes me sick how thick these wankill or be killed idiots are. Idiots - all of them. bah.gif

2046 speeding buses

231 in bad condition

146 drivers in no condition to drive

Seriously? They need to take a MUCH closer look because those numbers are way too low.

Perhaps you would be happier IN YOUR OWN COUNTRY.

Many were found not to be equipped with the minimum number of spotlights, fake Michelin men, bass speakers, empty bottles of M-150 rolling around the dash and " Wacky Races" style exhaust systems required under current regulations.

" This situation is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated. " said a Ministry of Transport spokesperson.

At least we think that is what he said, it was rather drowned out by the howling roar of 3 double deckers going past nose to tail at 120km per hour!

Yeah one of the biggest cringe-inducing sights is driving up Mittraparp and seeing a Highway Patrol Accord with lights flashing escorting a convoy of about a dozen nails at speed with a fag paper's distance between them.

You don't NEED to reply to every single new item, especially as you are always complaining about the country.

This is a step forward. Thailand is behind our own countries but lets support her and not bring her down with every post.

I know changes happen slowly, but of the 2000 + speeding public buses, how many do you think were pulled over?

PM can only do so much at any given time. He's trying. Can't believe you, of all people, are castigating his efforts. tongue.png

This is a FORUM a place to discuss things and give opinions, anybody is free to post on anything as often as they wish.

I look forward to the responses to Costas posts, even your response has some value.

As for negativity, the above mentioned poster has been scalded for offering too much positive comment on some issues.

This is TV.com don't take it too seriously.

Much "flapping of the lips" but hardly any real enforcement action. So they were speeding - anyone fined or lose their licence or get banned from driving? Any bus owners penalised for the state of their buses or the employment of less than skilled or responsible drivers? Many unanswered questions I think coffee1.gif Mai pen rai reigns supreme rolleyes.gif

Neeranam. Costas lives in Issan, so he has nothing better to do to fill his day.

Well we always can start a fundraising and send him back to Greece

and he can start paying back some euros to the European community laugh.png

All the things they say they did to the busses, but did they take them off the road at that time they were stopped????? I dought it. So nothing will be done. The busses will still be in bad condition and drivers either drunk or high on drugs.

Posted

They never mentioned how many of the busses had single wheels on the rear double axels. I have only seen 1 wheels on each side of the rear ax cel on most busses.
