EC will demonstrate how to vote in “OPEN-list System”

BANGKOK, 18 April 2015 (NNT) - Thailand’s Election Commission (EC) is to hold a demonstration on how to vote in the “OPEN-list System” as well as the vote counting process sometime after May, Election Commissioner Somchai Srisuthiyakorn revealed today.

He said that EC needs a month of preparations for the demonstration which will be held at the EC headquarters in Building B of the Government Complex, on Chaeng Watthana Road.

So far the EC has selected one type of ballots for use in the open-list system. The ballot contains on its left-hand side names of political groups or parties whereas the right side contains the number of each candidate.

Speaking about electronic voting, Somchai explained that e-voting machines will be used in the next general election but only at pre-election polling stations in Bangkok's constituencies in the first stage. The e-voting technology will be applied nationwide within five years as an alternative channel for eligible voters. He said a complete switch to e-voting must be done gradually.

I'd like to see the EC demonstrate how it can follow the constitution. Fortunately, there is no constitution now for it to follow. But be assured, whenever a constitution is endorsed, the EC will be unprepared to carry out elections.
