Chuan urges southern rubber farmers not to expect rubber price to skyrocket

Chuan-urges-southern-rubber-farmers-not-

BANGKOK: -- Former prime minister Chuan Leekpai urged southern rubber farmers to stop expecting that rubber price will shoot up to 170-189 baht per kilogramme as it was the case some years ago because there are many more rubber producers besides Thailand.

He suggested the farmers to adjust themselves and to plant other crops to make extra incomes instead of totally relying on revenue from rubber.

He pointed out that southern rubber farmers were worst affected from price slump compared to farmers in other regions because farmers in other regions have other occupations and do not depend on rubber as the only source of income which is different from the southern farmers who rely only on rubber.

Mr Chuan said that he used to suggest to Deputy Agriculture Minister Amnuay Patise, a southerner, not to apply the same method to solve rubber problem in all regions because of the difference of the problem.
