PHUKET: -- Two Burmese workers were arrested yesterday (April 28) in possession of 1,926 methamphetamine pills (ya bah). Police have said they supplied the drugs to fellow Burmese at a worker̕s camp in Rawai.

Phuket Provincial police̕s narcotics division revealed the arrest of the two at a press conference held yesterday.

At 3pm police arrested Aung Soe, 32, at a worker̕s camp in Soi Sai Yuan, Rawai with 1,776 ya bah pills.

Then at 5pm arrested Seinmyintkyi or Tua Lek, 31, at a rented room on Chao Fah East Rd, Chalong with 150 pills.

The arrest of the men came after plain clothes police raided the Burmese camp in Soi Sai Yuan to check the worker̕s documents and work permits.

Aung was walking towards his home but was stopped by an officer who asked to see inside a bag he was carrying. Mr. Aung tried to run away but was apprehended.

When searching his bag police found the 1,776 pills hidden inside a milk carton.

After being questioned by police Aung admitted that all pills belonged to him and he would sell them to his co workers in the camp.

“I recently sold 200 pills to a friend name Seinmyintkyi and he still owes me the payment,” Aung told police.

Police told Aung to contact Seinmyintkyi to ask for his payment.

When contacted by Aung, Seinmyintkyi told him to come to his rented room in Chalong to collect his money.

Later that evening police arrested Seinmyintkyi still in possession of 150 of the pills.

Both men were taken to Chalong Police Station where they face being charged with possession of a Category 1 drug with intent to sell.
