Change Non O Retirement Visa with Multiple Entry to Non B

Featured Replies

I have recently been offered a teaching position and urgently need to change my Retirement Non O with Multiple entry to a Non B teaching. Could anyone please advise.

Discussed several times, you may find something using the Search Function. My guess, is you will have to get the relevant documents, and apply for a "B" Visa at a Consulate outside of Thailand. There also reports in the Pinned Topics Section about getting visas in the region.

My friend in Chiang Mai had to leave the country as the local immigration office wouldn't change a non o retirement to a non B work extension. You will most likely need to leave the country and get a new visa.

Call your local immigration office and ask them directly to be sure.

Do you think it may be possible to cancel the Multiple entry Non O retirement visa in Vientiane, Lao ? - Thanks

If you're closer to Vientiane, go there.I prefer Savannakhet ( Mukdahan province Thailand) .

You'll need your contract, letter of employment, letter from educational area xxxx, where the school belongs to ,copy of degree, transcripts and two photographs.

Be there early morning, you can apply for your visa until 11 am, then pick up your passport the next day in the afternoon.

This will buy you 90 days, enough time to apply for a teacher's license from Khurusapha, the TCT, in Bangkok. Once you've got the needed license, you're able to extend your visa for another nine months.

Best of luck and if you're a beer drinker, please try the beer in Laos.

P.S> When applying for a Non-B, your Non-O will automatically be cancelled. Think twice if you really want to do that. Just saying.

You seem to have an extension of stay based on retirement with a multiple re-entry permit. This means you must cancel it at immigration and leave the same day you cancel it. But I would ask them to only cancel the re-entry permit, so you have some more time.

Having a re-entry permit means your permission to stay remains valid when leaving. When you do not have a re-entry permit(anymore) the extension of stay automatically becomes invalid when leaving the country.

Hi - Many thanks for info.

Just one quick question - I have 2 Diplomas in Engineering - do you think that will be acceptable for the teaching licence? Sorry to be a 'pain'.

A degree is needed for teaching at elementary and secondary schools. Without a degree you will not get a waiver for the teaching license. Note that the waiver is only valid for 2 year and you can only get a limited number of waivers. It is meant to give you time to study to get fully licensed as a teacher.

Is he able to just apply for an extension based on employment, at his local immigration office, to replace his existing extension/re-entry permit?

As I know it's definitely possible to change from a retirement extension to a marriage one (One of the teachers at my school did so last year), and assume the same would be possible with employment?

He could change his Non- O retirement visa into a Non-O based on marriage at his Immigration, without a problem. But in his case he'll have to leave the country to apply for a Non-B. If the school accepts a Non-O based on marriage, which is completely legal, it would be wise to go that way.

There're various threads on this forum before. wai2.gif

He can try, but it is not sure they will allow it. Immigration is getting picky about changing the reason of your stay now. The labour office can also be picky and will probably not issue a work permit while immigration will not change without a work permit.

If possible to change to marrige o visa that is better. When get non b visa they only give single entry 3 month first. After The extension, is depend on the work permit. I have non o visa marrige. And i also have work permit. The work permit and The visa live their one life for themself.

Not all Immigration offices and labor departments seem to follow the same rules.

Once the OP has got a Non- O, based on marriage it would be unusual for the labor department to deny a work permit.

The biggest problem with trying to change from an extension based retirement to one for teaching he will need at least a work permit application completed and approved.

Most work permit offices will not accept an application with a visa or extension based upon retirement.
