Thailand needs to prove its sincerity in tackling Rohingya issue: Udomdej
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Deputy Defense Minister and Army chief Gen Udomdej Sitabutr said Monday that the government has to work harder to prove to the international community that Thailand has sincere intention to tackle the issue of human trafficking.

Thailand needs to prove its sincerity now that several Rohingya death camps have been discovered in southern border provinces.

Udomdej said Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has instructed the Army, the Internal Security Operations Command, the Royal Thai Police and the Interior Ministry to cooperate to tackle the problem as Thailand is the transit country of the smuggling efforts.

Udomdej said the Fourth Army Area Commander Lt Gen Prakarn Chonlayuth has been instructed to cooperate and exchange information with police on the issue.

"With the cooperation, we expect the situation will improve," Udomdej said.

Perhaps a simple standard to roughly evaluate the government's sincerety in this: If no high ranked police or army officer(s) are jailed for a looooooong time the government is not sincere or effective.

One cannot imagine that any government in any country would tolerate mass cruelty/murder like this. Sadly it does happen. I sincerely hope Thai government is not one of them.

As i have said before. Just read the Reuters report from 2013. Everybody is involved. And has been going on for years. But Thais always blame somebody else.

Uh-oh, Thailand - you been outed!

No amount of spin is going to fix this one. Is it just me or is Thailand more and more in the news as a bad guy?

To date only one unidentified naval officer was charged this year as complicit in human trafficking by the military. Recently Prayut has declared that no one in the army is involved in human trafficking. The Junta may make some serious efforts to NOW detect human trafficking in Thailand but not at itself.
