John Oliver's hilarious take down of Barnaby Joyce and the 'war on terrier'

US TV host and comedian John Oliver has issued a spine-tingling threat to Australia: remove all things Australian from the US in 50 hours or the tiny baby koala gets it - right between the eyes

.

But it was Barnaby Joyce who was the real target of Oliver's hilarious take down on his news satire show Last Week Tonight on Monday.

Well, not quite equal time as Aussies seem to have many questions for Americans, yet not all questions or questioners are unquestionable because the only stupid question is....

21 Questions Australia Has For The US

So a few posts above a ThaiVisa son/daughter is valedictorian ... again.

Almost as common as those on ThaiVisa who look younger than their age.

Lol, my Valedictorian daughter misspelled your moniker . . . JalCrab instead of JLCrab. So, at least we have one Valedictorian daughter among our ranks.

I guess Depp and his illegal dogs have it 2 to 1 over those other, less important illegals:

Replies Topic

213 - Johnny Depp's dogs face death in Austrailia

104 - Asian nations must help save migrants at sea: US

Maybe so, but there's one thread for the pooches and dozens about the migrants. Ya gotta count all the posts, not just that one thread.

And, for the pooches the solution is simple and can be detailed in 3 sentences or less using mostly single syllable words. Not so simple for the migrant issues.

Funny, if you cannot see what my comments were directed at, then . . . Never mind, some just want to put their own spin on things and taking something a bit out of context for that purpose apparently satiates certain need in egomaniacs driven by deep seeded inferiority complexes.

<snip />

Based on tenor and reactions here, some are personalizing or internalizing this because he is Johnny Depp and for whatever reason that stirs up something internalized. I mean cm'mon. Throw him in jail. Kill his pets. Deport him. Calling him self-centered and saying he does not know how to act in public? Dude does much more for others, especially children, than any one on here and most of what he does is unannounced so media is not present.

Sir you should hang out in visa threads involving overstays and people under 55. Agree with everything you said, it represents a vast vocal intolerant & volatile set of TV posters. :(

If thinking that an actor ( note- not an important person ) that fles into Australia on his private jet and breaks the rules on dogs makes him a criminal then you can count me in as an intolerant & volatile TV poster.

No I would consider that a reasonable opinion to hold.

__________

Australia now pretending it’s going to put Johnny Depp in jail

Upset that it failed to eradicate the scourge of Johnny Depp’s tiny dogs from the Earth—and that its threats to do so only led to a whole lot of obvious Simpsons references—Australia has issued its latest, incredibly serious decree regarding Depp’s dog-smuggling ring, the actor’s ugliest ring yet. Depp is now facing 10 years in jail, according to a very serious report from a super-serious Australian senate committee, or a fine of $340,000. Those are the options placed before Depp for his utter disregard of a country’s quarantine laws, which could cost him either 10 years of his life, or a complete decimation of his annual budget for hats. It’s very serious.

“A complete balls up,” another committee member declared, according to the Sydney Morning Herald. Such dense political jargon only solidifies how serious the situation is, as does Senator Richard Colbeck’s testimony as to how the dogs were discovered in the first place: “A celebrity brought their dogs in to be pampered,” Colbeck said. “The dogs were duly pampered and that pampering was put onto social media.” This was followed, the Herald reports, by “committee chairman Bill Heffernan’s best Yorkie impersonation.” Indeed, all very serious. One might even say Yahoo Serious.

Too, bad . . . I guess they will have to extradite now. Is Australia strapped for cash they would shake down Depp for $ 340,000? Sounds like the whole country needs to get a job.

Not sure about the pretend, The US has (probably correctly) put Australian actors in jail for such misdemenors as throwing a phone at a non helpful hotel employee. What makes you think Australia does not have the right to do so when a US actor alegedly committed a much more serious offence.

Kind of wonder how long it would take to move the film set, lay off a few hundred people, cancel a few million dollars of catering, security, housing, etc and start filming somewhere else where the star isn't at risk of being jailed for 10 years.

I just don't get why Johnny Depp and his dogs should be treated ANY different from any other visitor guilty of the same thing. What's the basis of this defense? That he's some kind of employment rainmaker for Australia? Should countries now start evaluating arrivals for their potential economic contributions, and exempting the "quality" visitors from enforcement?

Absolute, utter, unqualified elitist nonsense.

Nah. Loved the Beatles till acid rotted their brains and they made those attrocious Sgt Pepper songs- rubbish. However, they were never "superstars" to me, just guys that made singalong pop songs. For real superstars of music can't beat Fleetwood Mac, Alan Parsons, Dire Straits, Chuck Berry and the great Pink Floyd, and yes, Elvis was huge and brought happiness to zillions.

Punished, yes. Threatened with 10 years for "no harm, and no foul"? And by a ministerial level official on a personal vendetta like this guy is? Ridiculous.

If I found out I was wanted for smuggling 2 healthy puppies into Thailand under threat of a 10 year prison sentence by an elected official with an axe to grind, do you think I'd come back to my job here? I don't know too many sane people that would. I could spend the rest of my life perfectly content to stay away from Thailand and its legal and prison system.

The difference, of course, is that if I didn't come back, very few other people would be afftected.

You're just obsessing over the "...10yrs" thing. Nobody, not even this minister, seriously thinks Depp would ever do 10yrs. I think there's some understandable indignation at Depp's arrogance in flouting Australian law and using the privilege of wealth & elite travel status to do it. But no one, expected public posturing notwithstanding, seriously thinks Depp would ever get an actual prison sentence - maybe a short suspended one if there's a failure to show some contrition.

Depp & Australia will eventually kiss & make up. Probably sooner rather than later. But Australia was well within its rights to take him to task, and probably even less leniently than it actually did. What this minister had to say about it was just part of the process. Nothing more.

Google Depp 10 years:

May not be likely, but I'd feel real foolish if I did come back without some guaranty of a lesser sentence... and ended up in prison for 10. Or even 6 months. Too easy to just avoid Oz for the rest of my life.
