Hi folks

We have a dilemma my stepdaughters passport expires on the 18th August this year but her uk visa expires on the 7th of August...the Thai Embassy has a waiting list of over 2 Months to get an appointment and a five week turn around on passport renewals. Can we apply for her visa extension with this short dated passport ? I'm really stuck on this ...the lady on the phone Thai Embassy suggests we just turn up and wait all day with no guarantee of being dealt with but its a 3 hour drive to London ....please help if you can.

5. Documents you must provide from the guidance says

You must provide:
a current passport or other valid travel ID

So does the list of required documents on the application form.

Unfortunately, I can find nothing to say otherwise.

So all I can suggest is that you contact UKVI to ask.

UK Visas and Immigration contact centre
Telephone: 0300 123 2241
Textphone: 0800 389 8289 FREE
Monday to Thursday, 9am to 4.45pm
Friday, 9am to 4.30pm
(Call charges)

The only alternative is to follow the advice from the lady at the RTE and turn up there, hope you'll be seen and that you get the new passport back in time.

Buy her a return ticket to Thailand.

1 week job done.

OK, I admit some stumbling block might be in the way whistling.gif

I've had some further thoughts.

She can actually apply 28 days before her current visa/LTR expires, and that expires on 7th August. So she can apply on or after 10th July (if I've counted back correctly).

The guidance says that the applicant must provide a current passport with the application; but doesn't say whether or not the passport must remain current while the application is being processed.

Whether that means a postal application, which can take at least three months to process, would be ok, I don't know.

But it I am sure it would be if she applied in person at a visa premium service centre; where she would get a same day decision.

But doing this will cost you an extra £400.

BTW, what exactly will she be applying for?

If Further Leave to Remain or similar then she (you) will also have to pay the new healthcare surcharge.

If Indefinite Leave to Remain, the surcharge is not payable.

She has been here for 2yrs 5months and came as a child dependant of my wife's at 16 now 19 so she is still classed as a child / dependant ?? Do we have to do the applications together as we did the first time, the cost seems to be getting higher and higher :-(

P.S FLR on 5 yr route is what we are on

Yes, as she was under 18 when she was granted her initial leave to enter at the same time as her mother they can both apply for FLR on the same form. Her mother as the main applicant, she as a dependent.

I'm afraid I don't know if she can apply separately, and were she to do so how it would effect the financial requirement for each of them.
