OK, I read something on another forum that I'm not on mention a detail about a POSSIBLE change in policy at Jomtien immigration when using a bank method (800K or combo) for annual retirement extension applications.

The wording was vague so I'm not sure. It seemed to possibly indicate that you are now required to update your bank passbook on the same day as the application date.

Same day update has never been required before at Jomtien, and I mean never.

I am very skeptical whether this change has really happened ... so I am posting here so that people doing such extensions (only at JOMTIEN please) can post here about their current experiences with this issue.

Thank you for reporting back here about whether this possible change is for real, or not.

I reckon it is not but it's worth finding out I think.

Kantang Immi ask last December (2014) the same to my neighbour.

Yes this rule have change. Dont know at what time.

Kantang?

I don't know what that is, but really PLEASE, only respond to this thread with current info at JOMTIEN.

This is local enforcement kind of thing.

NOT a national law.

Jomtien only please.

It is a National rule

Kantang Immigration (Trang province) is a sub-bureau of Satun Immigration.

Satun Immi is one of the most strickt, if I compere what I hear or read.

But you know that every Immi start the new rules as they want.

No it isn't. Stop spreading false information if you cannot back it up.

This thread is only about Jomtien policy on this one detail.

When I last did my extension renewal at Jomtien several months ago I got the bank letter and did the passbook update both on the day before I applied at Immigrations

I also did the extension more than 30 days before the old extension expired although some people on TV claimed they no longer did them more than 30 days before expiration.

And my embassy letter was about 3 months old.

Unfortunately some misinformed, confused people are always posting about "new rules" on these various expat forums and they seldom are new or rules.

As I recall, there was absolutely no change in procedure from previous years ... except that I applied for the extension in the morning and I was still told to come back to collect my passport the next day.

Yes I have not been updating my bank book the SAME DAY as application for several years now at Jomtien.

But it is true that some other offices do require that.

So it's always possible there is this change at Jomtien.

So I'm checking here.

Probably asking them is not useful. Actually going in with a not same day updating and it being OK would be the thing.

Generally I have been getting the letter the previous day and updating that same day to match the date of the letter but never bothering to do another book update on the application date.

i always did it the same day now 8 years never had a problem

Great. But that doesn't add anything to this topic.

It's about NOT doing it the same day.

We did ours the last week of March at Jomtien. Bank letter on Monday, extension on Tuesday, and re-entry permit on Wednesday when we picked up our passports. No change as of then.

Great.

Let me confirm.

You did NOT update your bank book on Tuesday, correct?

Assuming so, I think the purpose of this thread has been met.

There is no requirement at Jomtien to update the bank book SAME DAY as application.

Hi Jingthing,

Not exactly your question as I made my extension last month using the Embassy Letter way.

First time though that I was asked for a copy of my bank passbook.

The book update was about 1 week earlier, and the amount very low (like 40'000), but no problem. smile.png

Other than Bangkok Bank, what ATMs/Passbook Update machines allow an update to print in the passbook if there has been no activity since the previous update? I know an SCB ATM will only print an update in a passbook if there has been activity. If Immigrations requires a same-day update showing in the passbook, it would require a transaction on that date, thus requiring a new bank letter, no?

Not always, but you have to ask the cashier to update your bankbook with a zero transaction. That is something the machine cannot do.

At some banks you might indeed need to make a small deposit.

Just to muddy the waters, Jingthing, I did my visa mid-May at soi 5. The left-handed idle guy was on his usual go-slow & quite a queue had built up. To alleviate the congestion, I was dealt with by the Belgian (Robert?). He was only interested in my UK Embassy letter & gave me back my BKK bank letter & bankbook update acquired the same morning. (An hour's drive, wait & 100 baht wasted.)

My Norwegian friend went yesterday (he has sufficient funds in his account so had no letter.) He was asked for a rent agreement or house book! He has neither, living with his wife in a company owned house. Eventually they (Immigration) accepted a copy of his driving licence + residence letter which he had used to obtain DL. He was told this would not be acceptable next year!

Is this the shape of things to come?
