Featured Replies

Hi All

I have got a new pc case and motherboard i have got it all working but cant

figure out where the cables go to plug it all in!

The case is a X Galaxy and the motherboard is Asus A8N5X

In the manal it shows what to do but the cables are not the same as what is

coming out of the pc case!!!

the cables are

Ground

1+D

1-D

VCC

Ground

2+D

2-D

VCC

they are the cables from the case but in the manual has different cables and

i dont want to get it wrong and damage the board!

any help would be great!!!!!!

Thanks

Those are for two front panel USB connectors. Should have a 10-pin connector on the mainboard labled USB56 or USB78 or etc.. indicating USB ports 5&6 or 7&8. Should look like below and should have labels next to each pin similar to the ones you show. However the VCC may be labeled +5 and the +1D/-1D may be another set of numbers. Just match the + and - and same number groups. For example maybe the case cables are +1D/-1D and the USB connector on the mainboard maybe +P5/-P5 for USB port 5 so just put +1D to +P5 and -1D to -P5. Maybe similar labeling but I think you get the idea.

One caution and that the IEEE 1394 are similar so be sure to use the right PC cable (labeled) and match labels on the mainboard.

What you are probably looking for is not that External USB cable, which you indeed can connect to any of the external USB ports on the Asus board, but for a seperate bunch of cables.

They will be somewhere in the case (sometimes they are hidden between the front panel and the harddisks, look carefully or just gently but firmly pull off the front panel to locate them)

These will be labeled something like 'Powerswitch (2 pins), Reset (2 pins), HDD/IDE (2 pins), PowerLed (3 pins), Speaker (4 pins).

These connect to the board according to the manual, where NC means 'Not Connected':

PLED+ NC PLED- NC NC NC SPEAKR+ NC NC SPEAKR-

IDE+ IDE- NC NC NC PWRSW PWRSW NC RESET RESET

Where the + usually is the colored wire in the connector, the - is usually white.

The switches don't have any polarity so it doesn't matter there.

The external USB connectors on this board are wired:

(VCC is the same as +5v)

+5v P- P+ GND NC

+5v P- P+ GND NC

(two ports on each connector, there are 3 to choose from, any will do)

All pin layouts are as seen from the side of the board, you will see:

USB CONNECTOR 7+8 USB 5+6 USB 9+10 COMPORT CONNECTOR CASE CONNECTORS

Good luck :o
