Phuket Provincial Chief Administration officer Niwit Arunrat inspected the location on Bangtao Bay to re-regulate and resolve the public land encroachment and prepare for land surveys in front of the beach on September 19th. Phuket Governor Udomsak Uswarangkura earlier had a meeting with related officials, local administrative bodies and local beach front hotels’ representatives. At the meeting it was clearly understood that people have been encroaching on the land and the authority stepped in to tidy and beautify the areas.

The authority earlier put up signs asking land encroachers, who are beach operators and restaurant owners, to remove their structures by Friday September 15th. Just before this deadline, negotiations took place and authority stepped in to negotiate with local hotels to allow some area for the local villagers. The first group of 13 stalls will be relocated to a location in front of Amora Beach Resort Phuket (formerly Rydges Amora Beach Resort). There are about 90 stalls or beach operators there who were asked to register their names with the authority for the relocation. Mr. Niwit stressed that the beach must be tidied up as a good image for Phuket tourism. Lawsuits will be filed against violators.

2. Phuket Governor orders fair treatment for consumers in real estate development projects.

The Phuket Governor Udomsak Uswarangkura chaired a meeting of a provincial committee to consider 15 real estate development projects which seek licenses from the local authority. The Phuket Governor told the responsible agencies to carefully consider each project to prevent any problems that arise afterwards. The committee stressed the proper lay out and accurate land surveys before selling to clients to assure fair treatment for the consumers. Governor Udomsak insists that local administrative bodies must be responsible for the infrastructure to facilitate the basic infrastructure and utilities for the residents. This includes water supply and waste collection. The meeting also discussed rapid growth of real estate developments on Thepkasatri road which causes traffic congestion so local administrative bodies are urged to work with developers for access to projects.
