Thanks for the heads up as i was just considering moving back to the west because I had to eat beans that weren't branded Heinz and Mayonnaise that wasn't from Hellman's.

Hey wait, I have survived my whole life without those particular brands.

I can understand some foreigners upcountry must lead an unsustainable life because they have to eat beans from another brand instead of overpriced Heinz beans.

Branstons beans are much better than Heinzs.

NO

Most of these items can be obtained from Makro but I've only found Marmite the Villa Supermarket in Bangkok. Best to buy Marmite in 1KG Tubs from Costco in the UK. I've found the Malaysian Baked Beans, widely available, quite good.

i am beginning to warm to you,you can see the sublties on here.

looks like "subtitles", which ought to be mandatory on TV for some contributions.

My Thai wife has taken a strong liking to H.P. Sauce. Its long-lived popularity is surely eloquent testimony to the brilliant way this product can make almost any food item taste half-decent. I pour it onto broccoli, for example...one of those items we should eat but often fail to do so cos it tastes like, well, sweet FA.

I have picked up Henz Beans frequently in Tesco, when I spot them.

Even in Laem Chabang, but normally Pattaya North.

My problem with Tesco is they can't seem to keep their shelves stocked, getting particular items is hit and miss.

Shweppes soft drinks are a particular aggravation, yet a little place like Tops is consistent.

Keep your marmite but i do have a jar of vegemite that i got from bigc. Interesting seeing my gf checking out what all the fuss is about, grabs a spoonful and puts it straight into her mouth 'mai aloy!!' Met an aussie who smuggled a small jar into phuket on his holiday once. What a legend.

Been in Tops & Big C in Ban Beung the other day. No vegemite. Same in Villa Foods & Foodland Sukhumvit. I might have to go to Pattaya or Phuket.

I would say Pattaya, maybe chon buri? I got mine at big c ekkamai

Same at Tesco, Loei. Has had for at least the past two years. Can't get any vegemite here, hanging out for a good serving, forget that crap, Marmite, just a poor copy. Also Feta cheese, hankering to cook some good Italian but can't find any of this here either. Are there any stockists in Udon Thani, I have no problems in travelling the 300 k round trip just to get some. If anyone can help, it would be appreciated.

I think the problem is, you have never tasted real Marmite.

Nothing is quite as good.

And that includes the NZ manufactured (imitation) Marmite, which uses a totally different tasting Yeast to the real English Marmite.

I lived I England for many years. what I miss here are Greasy Spoon Truck Stops. Those Amazon joints are too Girly for me, no fry up.

Ah! Truck stop all day breakfast, nothing quite like it.

Double fried egg with bacon, sausage, beans, tinned tomatoes, couple slices thick buttered farmhouse bread all washed down with big mug of sweet tea.

Lol - beans. I ain't et beans since I left home near on 12 year ago now. crazy.gif

(Even when we ate at the "Brit" DFAC (The "Cambridge") in KAF I could never get used to the idea of stewed tomatoes and beans for breakfast. The deep fried toast and that weird "bacon" didn't really do it for me either. The Cambridge was one of the only DFACs to have trays full of poached eggs in the morning though, and they had the best omelette guy in the entire Middle East/South East Asia. Santosh was the KING when it came to omelettes. He could keep track of 20 different orders simultaneously and remember what your preference was even if you hadn't been in there for weeks.)

But I digress. I am still searching for Heinze Cocktail Sauce. I had a bottle from Foodland but they don't seem to stock it anymore. Been trying to find it at Friendship, Big C and Tesco with no luck (even tried online). Shoulda oughta bought a couple bottles when I was back in the WinterLand last November (hindsight is always so good) !

Me poor shrimp cocktails just ain't the same without that sauce. (Worry not though, I live on the ground floor and have a high fence so it's not likely that I'll try taking a leap any time soon !)

I have bought it in Friendship, it was by the Mayo and Salad dressings however I haven't looked for it for a while.

You must be new to expat life.... the ability to buy tea bags and marmite is about the most important discussion you will ever see on here!

What??????? What about beer?

I can survive without beer much easier than without marmite!

Umm, i think you will find that vegemite copied Marmite. Marmite was around at least 30 years before Vegemite, so i would say Vegemite is the copy.

Yes you are right, got the dates mixed but I still like the vegemite taste.
