I'll be going along to watch the Royals this Saturday. Can anyone let me know the songs/chants you have, especially if it demeans West Ham (assuming they can get a team out). Do Reading fans sing?

Thank you for selling Greg Halford to us. He's a magnificent player.

He got sent off in his full debut for us too. :o

But before he accomplished that he gave away a penalty against Spurs and we lost 1-0.

Shrewd buying by Roy Keene :D

Of course Reading fans sing...you won't be able to hear yourself think.

We have a history with West Ham so it won't be pretty...especially as they are trying to steal our prize asset Nicky Shorey...as they stole our Manager 3 years ago (but we don't hold that against them as he did not do very well there and never got Reading into the EPL.

You will have a GREAT time........I am dead jealous :D

But I will be back in the UK for the Wigan game in 3 weeks...can't wait.

No songs particularly reserved for the Irons...everyone gets flack....but there was a thread running on the Reading Fans website where they decide who to boo......Bellamy is leading the poll at the moment followed by Bowyer :o

You will find out who the winner was on Saturday

Reading have rejected a bid from West Ham for left-back Nicky Shorey.

The Hammers are keen to sign the England international after letting Paul Konchesky join Fulham and have offered £4million to Reading.

But, as revealed on Wednesday by skysports.com, Steve Coppell has knocked back the bid and described it as 'derisory'.

Coppell insists the offer was never considered seriously, and believes it was only made to unsettle Shorey.

"I can't deny West Ham have made an offer, but I look at the price of players and I consider the offer they made as derisory, not serious," Coppell told Reading's official website.

"It's an offer made to put the whole issue in the public domain, an invitation to cause unrest in a way."

Reading have not yet been able to tie Shorey to a new deal but Coppell remains hopeful that he will still be at The Madejski Stadium beyond Friday's transfer deadline.

He said: "I think the player is happy at Reading, but speculation about your future is bound to be unsettling.

"I hope he's playing for us on Saturday, let's see."

Hmm, interesting.

Well there's still half an hour left (UK time.) :o

Well, a bad result for Reading at the weekend. The full backs were continually drawn to the centre to cover for the lack of pace of the two centre halves. This left big spaces out wide which were well utilised by the Hammers as they launched counter attacks, especially at 0-2 when Reading really started chasing the game. Without any pace at centre half, Reading will be in a lot of trouble this season. When's Sonko due back?

On the other hand, Reading had a good share of possession and a couple of good chances which could have altered the shape of the match, but poor finishing let them down.

Reading's fans didn't really get behind their team. There were a few chants, but no songs and no attempt to really pick the team up at 0-1 down.

Just finished watching Sunderland's game with Reading. Good game. End to end. Fitting tribute to Ian Porterfield, who also played for Reading.

Sunderland should have killed the game with Kenwyne Jones giving Reading's back four problems all afternoon. But credit to Reading who made a real match of it, attacked throughout the game and finally got a goal for their efforts. They had Sunderland on the back foot in the closing stages.

Hi Guys...I'm back. :D

Great game against Wigan, heartstopping end to end stuff and a last minute goal sealed us the points.

After a very slow goalscoring start to the season we have now bagged 8 in our last 3 games :D

Trouble is we have conceded 12 :D

How many got the Portsmouth v Reading score right????

What was all that about?

FREAK RESULT...will probably never happen again.....the first time we have conceded 7 goals in 26 years :o

Looks like its gonna be a very tough season for us...still Derby at home on Saturday...a MUST WIN GAME.

I still think 17th will be good for us this year as long as it does not go down to the wire.... :D

Wecome back TP. That game at the weekend, well what can I say?

Several high scoring games if you include the Spurs v Villa game as well.

I agree that it is looking like a tough season, but you still may be good enough to stay up. Derby already look buried and Wigan are on the slide. Leaves one from Boro, Fulham, Reading, Sunderland and Birmingham. I won't inlude Spurs as I think they have far too much quality to get dragged into a relegation scrap, but they do need to start getting some results quickly.

Fulham look like they relish a good scrap, and I have been quite impressed with them. Certaiinly not a team that others will enjoy playing against. Birmingham played well against Man Utd at the weekend but I think they will struggle to get goals on a consistent basis. Boro, I'm really not sure about -just the odd good performance mixed in with loads of crap. Sunderland, don't look like they have the quality, lots of very average players. Which leads to Reading and the second season blues. They have played well in patches this season, but could do with strengthing in the middle of the park, they are missing Sidwell, who must be wandering if he has made the right decision. All in all, the results and performances for all of the clubs in the EPL have been pretty varied with exception of Arsenal who have easily looked the best team so far :D .

FINALLY...a goal from Kevin Doyle and a 1-0 win. :D

Not that happy with the performance against the league's whipping boys, but we lost 2-0 at home to Watford last season so its an improvement..and a clean sheet to boot.

Things are looking up :D

We are now above

Birmingham

Boro

Sunderland

Wigan

Fulham

Spurs

Bolton

Derby

8 reasons to be cheerful :D ..well for this week anyway :o

Three weeks on and we are still above all the teams I mention in my previous post.

We were back to our form of last year against a good Newcastle team yesterday.

We really should have won by more. Leroy Lita missed a couple of sitters :o

Statistically we are now in exactly the same position as we were this time last year :D

So as Coppell says "You can stick "Second Season Syndrome" up yer ass :D "

There is now some daylight between us and the bottom three.....but still a long way to go...but if we can win every home game, we can afford to loose every away game.....(having said that we are never gonna beat any of the top four at home), but three home wins on the trot is encouraging :D

Congratulations TP. A few people predicted the right score. But unfortunately you went with your head and predicted a draw. :o Should have predicted with your heart mate. But you did predict the Sunderland game correct.

Yes I have tended to be a bit of a pessamist lately, so I am absolutley delighted to be wrong :D

If I predicted every Reading result as a win I would be near the bottom of the of the Prediction league.

Reading squad shells out for fans By David Ornstein

BBC

Reading players will subsidise the trip for fans visiting Manchester City on 24 November - partly because of the club's inconsistent start to the season.

The Royals squad, currently 12th in the Premier League, have donated £5,000 to supporters heading to Eastlands.

Reading captain Graeme Murty told BBC Sport: "We know that at the moment we are massively inconsistent.

"It's not easy to justify spending so much money to watch us perform and this is giving something back to the fans."

Steve Coppell's side have endured a difficult beginning to their second season in the top flight and following their 3-1 defeat at Fulham on Saturday are only five points clear of the relegation zone.

"I would be lying if I said that the poor start didn't enter certain people's thinking," said Murty, who is in his 10th season at the Berkshire club.

"It can't be good going to places like Fratton Park and coming out after a 7-4 loss wearing a Reading shirt.

"But more than that there has been a growing realisation among the players of how expensive it is, especially for parents who bring their kids to a game."

Reading froze their season-ticket prices for the 2007-08 campaign yet they have to date seen attendances fall slightly. They now intend to recognise those who follow them around the country.

The first 350 fans who book the journey on the official supporters' trust coaches will pay £5 for their travel instead of the normal £20.

The move comes after a week in which the Sports Minister Gerry Sutcliffe claimed sky-high wages and ticket prices in top-flight football are alienating fans.

We feel, not guilty, but that we a have a little bit of responsibility towards that cost

Reading captain Graham Murty on the players subsidising travelling fans

"Ordinary working people who want to see Manchester United face being priced out," said Sutcliffe.

"There is a danger that there will be a move away from the game and we don't want to be in a position where people are alienated."

Murty pointed out that the subsidisation of travel may not become a regular offering but added: "We decided that it would be a nice gesture if we could get behind the fans the way they get behind us and try to alleviate that financial burden.

"The players had the ultimate say-so over whether we did it or not. It's not something we've been ordered to do, it's something that as a group of people we felt was right.

"We feel, not guilty, but that we a have a little bit of responsibility towards that cost. I'm not saying it's getting beyond a joke, the level of cost, but it certainly is almost taking the game away from its roots.

"If that eventuality ever comes to pass then football is going to be the only loser. If you take the game away from the common person in the street then football is going to go downhill from there on."

Good on the players TP. Nice to see that they appreciate the fans who travel around to follow their team, even when the results aren't going there way.

I really hope that Reading stay up this year, even though I predicted the drop at the start, I'm more inclined to go for Boro or Fulham now. I even think Sunderland will get out of it.

Thanks Mr.T.

Yes its an unusual step but its nice to see the players acknoledging how much te away support means to them even though we are going through a very rough patch away from home.

Good on 'em.

I pray that you are right and we do avoid the drop, at least our home form against the clubs outside the top six is pretty good of late.

If we win 75% of our home games and get a few wins away we will be OK.

Though Arsenal at home and City away won't yeild anything and I know that.

We have 13 points at the 1/3rd of the season x 3 would be 39 ..our target is 40, so we are virtually on track for survival, and thats all we want.

TP, looks like Shoey may be signing a new deal?

Any ideas on any potential transfer activity in the window. I did hear something about Taylor from Portsmouth?

What do you think? He's got a great left foot.

Posted

Yes Mr.T, he has.

Unfortunatley there is nothing that I have seen yet to suport any evidence that we will be signing anyone, but I have not checked out the website today.

We really need at leat 3 new players, nobody we signed in the summer has been able to forge themselves a regular first team spot yet.

The only good business we did was selling Greg Halford to Sunderland, according to statistics he is one of the worst defenders in the league. He is on -13 points in the Sun Dream Team Compo.

Leroy Litta's value has plumetted like a stone. After a fantastic summer playing in the England Undere 21's he then injred himself having sex , then sent pics of him having sex taken from his mobile to his mates who then promptly sent them to the tabloids, he has really taken his eye off the ball, and has yet to score.

I would not be devastated if he was sold, but Coppell always belives in giving people a second or even third chance.

We look a better team when he is not playing these days.

As far as Leroy is concerned...."Som nom na" unfortunatley.

Its a shame when a players "off field" antics are more widely known than he is for his playing skill, which has been badly affected by these actions.

Half Past four in the morning.

REALLY WORTH going to bed at 8pm to get up for this one.

Once again Arsenal have shown their class.

we have been totally dominated and outclassed.

As last season Arsenal are the best top four side we have come up against.

BTW...every Reading player that started were playing in the Championship 2 years ago !!

We have NO answers...its a different league...the gulf is too big, boys against men, they are better than us Man for Man in every department

Congratulations the Gooners, hope you win the league.

Still if its stays at 3-0 thats better than the 4-0 last year :D

Glad we dont play them every week :D

Jeez we've scored :o

Thats buggered up all the 3-0 predictions : :D

Having said that Arsenl's offsude goal wasn't, so it really should be 4-0

Hard luck TP (not that luck had anything to do with it).

Arsenal are indeed a class team, that are playing with so much class, style and confidence, i too hope they win the league.

Coppell's sumation of the match was very gracious and true. I'll try and post it later.

I just read a quote of his after the game.

"At the end of the day Arsenal are a better team than we are"

"We have absolutley NOTHING to loose when playing the so called big 4" As long as we can beat the teams around us we will survive"

Just hope that in our next game he does not mention the BIG 4 plus 1...''cause thats where you are right now Mr.B...a top four team...and justifiably so :o

Cheers TP, i think we have justified our 3rd spot upto now. But the crunch will come in the christmas period. I obviously hope we beat you in a couple of weeks but after that, i wish you all the luck :o

COPPELL WANTS A BREAK

well I don't Adam & Eve it, Steve Coppell said in an interview with the Telegraph that he wants to take a break from football as he is finding he pressure too much.

What a time to say it??? :D

We are embroiled in a relgation battle for sure and if Coppell is thinking if jumping ship now the consequenses will surely be relegation :o:bah:

He had for the first time in 20 years signed a contract for longer than a year in the summer, what kind of effect will this have on the players and fans at the club?

One minute he is saying that he finds it hard to attract quality players to the club because they perceive the club has a lack of ambition, then he qualifies it with a statement like this :D Unbeleivable :bah:

If he does not want the job its best if he goes now...maybee he is sending a message to the FA that he wants the England job?

It would not surprise me if it's a done deal, more time to play golf, watch the way other Manager's manage, he has said this is what he wants to do, so the England job would suit him down to the ground, plus he is a non-contreversial fiqure, is English and would not give the FA much greif as Murinho would, and is respected by all the other league Managers

We need a Manager who eats breathes and lives the club, not someone who is moaning about early starts late finishes and slepless nights, you never here about Wenger or Ferguson asking for a bluddy rest.

He has gone down in my estimation unless this report is untrue, which would not surprise me as it is so uncharacteristic of him, but if its true then Madjeski should replace him NOW.

Mourinho would be my first choice (but HIGHLY unlikely he would go there...in fact he would not consider it I'm sure)

Jol my second, (he may well take it...he is not a bad manager)

but any other half decent managers are not available after the merry go round of the last few weeks

He has also said that Shorey and Lita can leave in the transfer window, Shorey has emerged as a target for Man United, although if not them he will deffo go to West Ham,whle apparantly Boro and Pompey are interested in Lita.

Thats all well and good, but who is gonna replace them? especially Shorey, we have the worst defence in the league apart from Derby.

Sme BIG mistakes were made in the summer, none of the big money signings Coppell made can get in the side, normally we are starting with the same 11 that were playing Championship football two years ago...so where is the progress??? :D

Some of those players are finding it hard to cut it now, and the loss of Sidwell is now showing up our midfield frailties. he ran the midfield in the same way Gerrard does for Liverpool.

So is this a signal by Coppell saying "Come and get me" to the FA??

I will wait with baited breath to hear EXACTLY <deleted> is going on.

Its put me in a very BAD MOOD today :D

Posted

TP, this is really bad news for Reading if indeed he decides to take a break.

Maybe he's got a jod lined up with Chonburi United, that way he can enjoy his football, golf and other extrAcurricular activities :D

On a serious note, he did leave Man City in rather suspicious circumstances in the past, and there have been rumours that he finds pressure difficult to handle. That in itself suggests that he is no way suitable for the England managers job. In fact, I don't think he will be the next England manager, even though he would probably suite the duffers at the FA.

For Reading to lose him and maybe several players in the transfer window, then it really could spell relegation. As you quite rightly stated, there was no real replacement for Sidwell (who is he playing for these days?) :o and summer signings haven't done much.

Hope that this gets sorted out sooner rather than later.

If he does go, who would you want?

Of the out of work managers...Martin Jol

of the in-work Managers ...Addie Boothroyed

God help us if we get McClown , Souness, Reid, Robson or O'Leary

Billy Davies is a fine young manager...just did not have the resouces so I hope it has not tarnished his reputation too much...but he has not got the experience to manage an outfit like ours.

All I can hope for is that it is just "Paper Talk" but its running into pages on the Reading fans forum.

One thing for certain, O'Leary, Souness, McClown, Goddle will probably all be linked if it does indeed become a vacancy. How about Paul Ince? He seems to get linked with a lot of the jobs these days?

As for Billy Davies, I think anyone with any sense regarding footballing matters will realise that he didn't have the resources available for his team to compete in the Premiership, and that the results acheived were entirely predictable. I'm sure that given a nother opportunity somewhere he will do a good job.

What a result beating Liverpool 3-1 :o

never thought we stood a chance, but this was like watching the Reading of last year.

Don't know (nor really care) what Raffa was thinking regarding Tuesday,he conceded the game at 3-1 by taking of Liverpool's best player . Gerrard, but we took our chances well and the ref did us a few favours that we don't normally get in our position.

We now have a REAL chance of breaking away from the bottom, our next four games are against teams below us. :D

Come on you R's :D
