willbartholomew Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 Messed up my first post. Tried sending you a PM but it wouldn't go through. Send me a PM with your email, I am in similar situation and would like to talk more.
fang37 Posted September 30, 2015 Author Posted September 30, 2015 Hi TV Members Still aiming to expand my social horizon. Please check my profile & PM me if you wish.
Berkshire Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Interesting, Fang. I've dated a few girls from Fang. I've been there once, drove by a few times. I've always wondered what it would be like to live in one of those tiny little towns that I've driven through. It must be crazy quiet in the evenings....peaceful and serene, if that's your thing. Good luck to you as I don't think I can ever settle in such a place, but worth considering as Chiang Mai gets more crowded by the day.
trainman34014 Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Anyone contemplating the move should understand that your extension, be it Retirement of Marriage still has to be obtained at Chiang Mai Immigration. 90 day reports you can do at Fang.
fang37 Posted September 30, 2015 Author Posted September 30, 2015 Berkshire I left CNX after 13 years. Fang - quiet - yes Quality of life better - yes. Biggest change - not many farangs & few local Thais speak English.

MaeJoMTB Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Berkshire I left CNX after 13 years. Fang - quiet - yes Quality of life better - yes. Biggest change - not many farangs & few local Thais speak English. Quality of life is better with a broken leg, and limited mobility? Are you sure?

Biggest change - not many farangs & few local Thais speak English. If you don't mind my asking when you say quality of life better in what way? NJ Difficult to quanify. We are all different. Far less traffic - zero traffic jams Less pollution Tourism - what is that? Nature - banana trees, coconut/palm trees The people are less materialistic but changing Access to public utility services - too easy 90 day reporting service locally @ I/O- never busy Honesty of locals Go to the local food markets - polite vendors I can look out the window & see the local vegetation, birds chirping No harassment by tuk-tuk drivers - no tuk-tuks The ladies are extremely beautiful (but I choose not to look) The locals (neighborhood) pop in I feel welcome Some even wish to learn English from me Lastly, we had a house warming party. Guests - more than 300 over 2 days. Catering, no BYO. Live entertainment. Even the local mayor arrived. Edited September 30, 2015 by fang37
fang37 Posted October 2, 2015 Author Posted October 2, 2015 Why don't more Falangs live in Fang? Besides the obvious environmental factors, Fang seems to be a sleepy town. To boost its attractiveness to expats, we need - Coffee shops Night clubs Bakeries & Delis What else do you desire? Would you consider relocating then? Why yes? or Why no?
puukao Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 if you are supermodel , please PM me and I will make trip to Fang. I have biked there, and stayed one night. was fine, I liked it. if you are male, buy me some coffee and i can fix bike if needed.... CM has energy. I hope to be back in Fang. Also curious about cities in-between, like Lamphun. been there a few times....curious if i could stay there for weeks
northernjohn Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Why don't more Falangs live in Fang? Besides the obvious environmental factors, Fang seems to be a sleepy town. To boost its attractiveness to expats, we need - Coffee shops Night clubs Bakeries & Delis What else do you desire? Would you consider relocating then? Why yes? or Why no? No I would not consider it. Sounds like a very lovely place to visit and maybe just kick back. How ever I would like more than that. Not interested in bars and night clubs and I am sure nice Bakeries and Delis would be boring after a while. Not much in to hanging around coffee shops how ever I can see that changing there. How ever would defiantly need more English speaking people to make it a habit. All that being said I am going to put it on my bucket list as it does sound like a very nice place to visit.
Paagai Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 The people are less materialistic but changing In the last ten years, materialism has changed Chiang Mai from a provincial town to a developing nightmare. I hope Fang survives as is for a few more years.
fang37 Posted October 2, 2015 Author Posted October 2, 2015 Thank you for your input members. We have a fence - what is a fencing club? No Maccas or Pizza Hut. KFC - at Lotus. Other - yes eg Dunkin Donuts, MBK (?) Social - Low-arse & Makro. Al the kids are blind - no guide dog but all wear sunnies. COOL! I luv it. It will keep change (for the worse). Development - detest it!
FolkGuitar Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 We stay at a hotel in Fang when we need a place to sleep on motorcycle trips up north. Being right on the main road, it makes a good central hub for day trips along the border without needing to spend 3000 baht a night at one of the fancier resorts. (We use hotels just for sleeping, not for hanging out during the day.) In fact, we'll be staying there again in a couple of weeks. Nice place run by the Lisu people. Fang is a nice town, quiet and without the congestion that Chiang Mai is developing, but it just doesn't have the magnetic pull that towns often exude. Even Thaton feels more like a place I'd want to settle, but I couldn't tell you exactly why. As for your question; "We have a fence - what is a fencing club?" A fencing club is a place where people meet to engage in the sport of Fencing. Although it is an Olympic sport, it really isn't quite as popular as Mud Wrestling or Running With The Bulls, and so it's understandable that there might not be a club in Fang...
fang37 Posted October 3, 2015 Author Posted October 3, 2015 Mr FolkGuitar Fang certainly does not cater for all tastes. A touch of insanity is a great asset. Here, life is SIMPLE, SIMPLE. Folks get up before 6am & go to bed by 8.30am. Ladies - many stunners. When I was a member of that other forum, I had a visit from a member. He rode a bicycle - a Hi-So bicycle. Many local lasses were intrigued. They would form a queue so that they could sniff the bike seat. What I do enjoy is when we drive to the big smoke (CNX), there are many beautiful temples. Happy you come here. There is even a multi-lingual tourist guide - WOW! Fencing - jest, FG.
Berkshire Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 Does Fang get the bad air in the Mar/Apr timeframe? I always thought it was pretty much the entire north, from CM all the way to CR and the Myanmar border.
fang37 Posted October 3, 2015 Author Posted October 3, 2015 (edited) Quality of air here is quite good - far better than CNX. Occasionally, neighbours burn a LITTLE. Environmentally, they are excellent. eg recycling everything. BTW, we even have BLUE SKY! Edited October 3, 2015 by fang37
fang37 Posted October 3, 2015 Author Posted October 3, 2015 (edited) I am happily surprised that by TV members have an interest in this sleep neck of the woods. I'm staying here until I cark unless my boss evicts me. My favourite hobby is navel gazing - closely followed by an intensive interest in nasal hair growth. Edited October 3, 2015 by fang37
FolkGuitar Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 Mr FolkGuitar............................... Fencing - jest, FG. No...no. Not Jousting. Fencing. Jousting is illegal in Thailand as the lance is prohibited by the 'Firearms and Swords Control Act' of 1947.
fang37 Posted October 3, 2015 Author Posted October 3, 2015 Interesting, FG. My ex brother-in-law - a bloody Pom. Represented UK in the Olympics. Physical & mental fitness - absolutely essential. I prefer cowboys & itchy bums myself.
fang37 Posted October 7, 2015 Author Posted October 7, 2015 Recently, there have been dramatic changes in this sleepy hollow. Why? Orgies in the streets! I prefer watching as I am so shy.
fang37 Posted October 15, 2015 Author Posted October 15, 2015 I am not shy re orgies anymore. I watched a lot of porn movies - I mean Sex education movies. Now, I even take off my shoes when having sex.
fang37 Posted October 15, 2015 Author Posted October 15, 2015 Thought about starting a blog BUT then I would have obligations to the viewers. NO
MaeJoMTB Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 you need to add some photos. I'd certainly like to see out and about photos of Fang. Views from your garden would add interest.
fang37 Posted October 15, 2015 Author Posted October 15, 2015 I would like to but at present I am incapacitated - broken leg.
fang37 Posted October 16, 2015 Author Posted October 16, 2015 Living here is for the select few. One has to put up with many negative aspects - blue sky = minimal pollution = breathable air silence = never too quiet general honesty I suggest - STAY CLEAR OF FANG!
