hi guys,

anyone with personal experience with this car? I have been looking to buy a little pocket rocket (spirited driving not expecting high performance), with good fuel economy and good safety and modern tech.

I was looking at the nissan Pulsar Dig Turbo.. however that's a fair bit more expensive at 1.07MB...

the ford fiesta ecoboost starts from about 750K brand new..

i noticed there was a 2014 model on sale for 500k.. which is a pretty good deal! of course it's already been sold..

if any of you looking to sell or have advice for or against this buy, please share!

much appreciated!!!

ps. i used to be a real motor head back home.. however i've come to be more practical these days.. and no more racing for me :), so i do know my car stuff so do feel free to throw in any technical details or problems :)

Thanks!!!

You are paying a premium for that engine.

It's a shame that you can't shop this car like we do in America.

3 cylinder, 1.0 liter engine.

750k baht.

I must be missing something.

yes - the latest technology.

This car has a good power to weight ratio and the engine has been lauded throughout the motoring media

You can get it now, I doubt that discount will last forever. Did you try mazda 2 1.5 turbo diesel?

They also have a cheaper 1.3 petrol motor. Less power but very good on fuel; better than all of the other ecocars out at the moment. Not sure how they compare to the fiesta though. Or for something that rides a but higher, the mazda cx-3 should be out soon. I don't know when, though.

The Ford used to have a 1.5 engine option but I believe they have discontinued - it produced less power and was considerably heavier

fiesta is available in 3 body shapes - high, sedan and hatch

1) It's still available with the 1.5L engine

2) The 1.5L is not "considerably heavier" than the 1.0L turbo

3) There's no "high" version. That's a different car called the Ecosport.

Did this topic go out in the newsletter or something? LOL.

1.5engine is a run out and is considerably heavier

The "Ecosport" is just a name- it is just a "high" version.

why nit-pick?

The 1.5L is not a run out at all.

Why post incorrect information and present it as fact?

I have an Ecosport and it is nothing like my niece's fiesta. Both have the 1.5l engine. Ecosport is heavier, so more sluggish than the fiesta.

Did test drive the 1.0 ecoboost Fiesta and thought it was quite fun, nice handling and swift. However my son decided to get the Mazda2 turbo diesel instead. Price is higher, as you can get good discount as mentioned on the Fiesta, not on the 'azda2. The diesel is also a very nice drive and has a good punchy little engine which truly sips fuel only. I saw on average about 5l/100km on my sons tacho with mostly Bangkok city driving.

It is hard to beat the Fiesta at that price fully optioned out, whereas the mazda 2 is at least 100k more with less options....

Both Best in class in my book...

You're really a roll here... the Fiesta pre-dates the Ecosport by 3 years in Thailand, even more in other markets..

:P

Why don't buy a normal 1.6 liter Fiesta. All those small turbo engines will have problems in the future, specially in TH, where they be raced. Better more cubic than turbo. The 1.6 doesn't use more fuel, and has more torque. Top model S in good condition one owner cars and low mileage, can get between 350 to 420'k, for a decent one. Remember: Top models "S" (for Sport) have the dual transmission.

These reviewers get things wrong ... time after time after time

'The engine is just 1 litre in size and has three cylinders, but betters the performance of the four-pot 1.6-litre Zetec S that this model replaces thanks to turbocharging. Its 123bhp and 125lb ft outputs are up 5bhp and 13lb ft, resulting in a lower 0-62 time of 9.4sec and a higher 122mph top speed. This is all combined with tiny tax band-garnering 99g/km CO2 emissions and a claimed 65.7mpg, though we’ll get back to that in a minute'…

Well if you do a lot of city driving and spend a lot of time in traffic jams, the 1.0 ecoboost make sense to me.

Sure I would never buy a 2nd hand one from a young Thai dude but a new one.

I am reconsidering what to buy next when selling the Ranger in about 2-3 years time, we do about 8-10k km per year and app 85% is city driving and buying a huge 1.2 - 1.5 mill baht 7 seater for that is just crazy man.

The problem is that I fell safe in my "tank" and others gives me space out on the roads, not sure the same applies for the tiny Fiesta.

Well I have time, soooo.

so what your saying is if the OP does not race the vehicle it will be perfectly fine, thanks for the clarification.

thanks both for your suggestions!

well i seriously doubt i can race in this little 1.0 turbo!!!

i'm a fan of engine technology and always have been pro-turbo... although i do appreciate the additional value for buying second hand 1.6 top spec model for less!

i suppose it's a trade off to some extent... pay a lot more.. but get it spanking new... free insurance for one year... longer servicing/warranty period... at the cost of bearing depreciation of a new vehicle...

i take extremely good care of my vehicles (at least internally).. i'm not too particular about exterior paint condition all the time... especially in thailand!

i intend to tune up the car after the warranty period is over... minor tune up and exhaust.. perhaps even fit a bov.. come on admit it! all of us guys who want turbo cars.. is not so much for anything but the bov sound... but i'd like to do it tastefully!!

anyway thanks for everyone's feedback! i will still go check out the mazda 2 1.5l turbo diesel... :)

The 4-door 1.0 Fiesta Ecoboost. I think you will find that you can get 100K off most even if it's not advertised (plus insurance + + other bits). If you are anywhere near our area I can recommend a good seller who works for PPS Autotrade ... they are in Pathum Thani, we have had excellent service from him.
