I have noticed in the last week or so that the price of oil on the international market has come down by about 10% from $58 now to $52, yet there has been no decrease at the pumps, except for a measly 40 stang for Diesel. Correspondingly a few weeks back when prices were at $55 we were enjoying if that is the correct word, 26 baht per litre at the pumps. Seems like someone is determined to milk the motorists again.

The Thai Baht has lost significantly against the US Dollar.

I don't expect much in lowering prices.

I am happy that prices have not yet risen.

And don't forget that the fuel market in Thailand is not simply liberal/market driven but adjusted by a complex system of tax tariff (rising here, lowering there).

OP Monday a week ago I paid 25.06 baht per litre for diesel at a filling station in Pattaya.........................what is the price where you are?

That is consistent with the EPPO list which marks the lowest prices:

http://www.eppo.go.th/retail_prices.php

(prices in upcountry are up to about 50 Satang higher)

If you believe the EPPO lists, it was 2009 when we last had prices that low.

http://www.eppo.go.th/retail_changes.html

Mid 1997 was the first time that all prices reached double digit values.

Before that everything was below 10 Baht wink.png

Highest Diesel price was about 44 Baht in 2008.

Brent Crude down to $50 today, price of Gasohol has remained the same since the price was at $58, the baht has only slipped about 2%, so someone is raking it in.

Caltex in Phuket Saturday was 23.73 for diesel. Lowest I've seen. Normally use shell, but the were 25 minivans, 17 coaches and bunch of twin axle trailers all trying to get onto the forecourt at the same time.

1,740 baht for 73.32 litres.

Filled up with diesel today at 23.46 - less than 1500 baht to fill the tank with the warning light on. Long may it continue.

Filled up again as near empty, Caltex in Bang Bua Tong was 23.29 yesterday for diesel, + less another 8 baht discount because I have there platinum card

Brent Crude trading at 49.56 down approximately 18% in two weeks, the price of Gasohol should translate to at least 25 per litre even taking into account the usual thieving calculations.

The add on transport fee upcountry is 70 stang per liter, above Bangkok pump price on diesel. It used to be the same price in Chiangt Mai as Bangkok then the transport fee area was expanded south to include Chiang Mai, and the fee for transport was increased from 50 stang upwardes. The trucking companies are doing great lower price on fuel for their truck transport (expense) and increase fee for transport of fuel (income) figure the income on a 18 wheel fuel transpot truck.

This way they get to screw locals as well as vistors to the los.

Todays price for diesel fuel , in another publication is pump price 23.29. Go out and look at CM price and I am not referring to shell diesel with their self advertised hi preformance company additives. look at PTT station price accross from airport immigration office, Always less than the other pumping stations on main roads by 3 or 4 stang.

Of course only god knows what type of liquid has been added to diesel fuel that is put in your tank . They may be still taking delivery of russian bunker oil that one of the ex PMs signed a contract on.. Too bad he is not alive to be questioned and give informative info.

I wonder if his estate has paid the money owed back to the government as directed by the courts.

Zero according to the pump prices, even taking into account the slight decline of the baht against the Dollar which has been no more than 8% since the 6th July.

The cost of gas here does not drop anywhere near proportionally, to the cost of oil, as it does in many other nations. It appears either the govt. or PTT is pocketing alot of profit.

If you are in a strange area and use E85. Just type E85 into the search box ,then re tap My Loction on google maps and only 85 places show up. Save looking at all the stations

40 Stang reduction on Gasohol 95, when oil is at the lowest price for the year, that bodes ill for when they price starts to go up again, as we can expect higher prices than before.

Because the cost of "gas" as you call it does not relate proportionally to cost of crude, "gas" is a final product while crude is the raw material, so you need to factor in refining costs which is pretty static costwise and excise on fuel hasnt changed either, plus you dont know when the crude wad bought on forward contracts

People who dont understand any of this simplistically think a 10% reduction in crude prices has to equal a 10% reduction in fuel price.....it doesnt work that way

Nothing to do with the Thai goverment pocketing profit

What you are saying may be true. But, from my years in the US, when crude drops in price, so does the cost at the pump. maybe not proportionally, but crude has gone down almost 20% in the past month or two, and gas has dropped by maybe one baht here. Someone is profiteering.

You cant compare what happens in the US with the rest of the world

1 US excise rates are lower, which make up the vast majority of the cost of fuel - tax rate on fuel should be seen as a fixed cost

2 one suspects in the US the forward contracts are of shorter duration

3 there is more competion in the US for refining therefore the refining cost per liter will be lower

4 The US goverment doesnt put money in a Fuel fund to stabilise the price during periods of higher crude costs, during the times of high crude prices the price in Thailand was relatively stable due to the fund

In review of the above where is the profiteering ? And lest not forget oil companies including PTT are in business to make a profit, they are not charities
