Where to get lids for pans/pots

Featured Replies

Got many pots and pans, all without lids. Any chance to buy them somewhere? Thanks!

Next time, buy pans with lids. bit late now, methinks facepalm.gif

I got some replacement lids at the Zebra/Seagull s/steel ware shop near warawot market.

He stopped stocking the really good pans and lids as I was told that folk here cannot care for non-stick ware correctly.

I need glass/Pyrex pots and pans. They only have in central and very expensive. They are called Corning Visionware or something. I bought one saucepan from eBay used and had it it shipped to the states. Any local options other than Central?

They're imported therefore expensive. 2nd hand then shipped from US, EU or Aus is probably the cheapest way, but it will probably be much easier to bite the bullet and pay whatever the cost is locally. A lot depends on how often and for how many years you'll use them. Work out a cost per use and it won't seem anywhere near as bad. I haven't found ANY good locally made pans here - I'm a very keen cook and like my equipment to be heavy duty and top quality.

When we sold up and went travelling, I gave a friend who was planning to leave her marital home my set of very expensive copper bottomed stainless steel pans. They were over 20 years old then. She, happily, didn't end up leaving and put them into the garage in a box, and along with a few other things I'd given her, were rescued by me 3 or 4 years ago and brought to Chiang Mai in a $5 charity shop suitcase for the price of an extra bag on Air Asia. Those pans are now almost 30 years old, are back to pretty much daily use and are just as good as new - in fact, a lot better than anything I could buy locally.

There's got to be a moral or two in that story.

Any good cookware is imported, so you just have to bite the bullet and pay the price. Fortunately, we're at a stage in our life where we've downsized and are living a more simple life, with a small kitchen, so I just analyzed what was absolutely essential and got good quality cookware.

I found a nice set of three glass casseroles/baking dishes imported from France at Rim Ping Nim City, near Central Airport Plaza. Same quality (and price) as Corning, but smaller, so it fits in our little oven. As for skillets -- just two, but also from France. Non-stick and with lids, of course. From Central, I think, but maybe from Rim Ping as well.

If I want something complex like a roast turkey -- well, I can order it already cooked from Rim Ping during the holidays.
