Samsung Galaxy Note 5

Samsung advised me to upgrade software version to KitKat due to performance issues with Jellybean.
They suggested it straight away, when I took it to the service centre.
After the upgrade, the phone loses service with Truemove SIM. I purchased a DTAC sim and this works fine. Put the truemove sim in an ancient phone from 2008, and it works.
The samsung phone also does not have mobile data connection anymore, with any SIM.
Samsung service centre is saying, they need to replace motherboard. But they say they cannot replace it under warranty, because it's a grey import. Eventhough it was purchased in Thailand and I was not told it did not come with a warranty when purchasing.
Not all sources on the Internet are reliable. bobs-mobile-phone-website.com is not a reliable source, but forums like gsmhosting.com are.

They don't delivery international. Only U.S.

Did you have it delivered to your U.S Address?, does your warranty cover Thailand? i.e. you could take it to a Samsung Service centre in thailand and have it repaired under the warranty that came with it.

We may be talking about different things but there is a Samsung factory store in most malls in Thailand.

i would cal those official samsung shops ,and some are licenced repair centres

i dont think they manufacturer any phones in any thailand factory

most of the galaxy notes and s range i have had has been in from korea ,vietnam and china but it depends on the product code serial or imei

whether it has warranty in thailand or not

recently they refused to fix my note 4 because its from singapore ,even though it has a thai product code on the box

Anyway on to the topic.

My friend went to Samsung store in BKK to check for 64GB, if that was suppose to release today as they promised, it would have. However he was told 64GB version will come in 1 month or end of SEPTEMBER!

Seriously? I'm so frustrated, why does everything takes so long to come to Thailand? Everything is difficult to get. Yet comes to iphones every model is on sale from 16-128 GB.

What the point to officially advertise on your website 64 GB model with price if you don't plan to sell them for a few months.

I have 144 GB in my Galaxy S-5. Not that much in my smart watch thoughsad.png. When a person calls me my body lights up in LED lights and sparks fly from my wrist and the below tune is played from my hat.rolleyes.gif Just in case you see me at the mallwai2.gif

The Thai market will always be second to the farang market I guess, it's the same in India, middle east, Russia and Africa with staggered releases of popular items..

If I had to guess, id say they can't manufacture them quick enough and figure the best place to send the available stock is USA or Europe first...

Most Thai would probably barely afford the cheapest one anyway so it might be sensible in some way to send the expensive one to countries that can afford it first

Doubt they considered the rich expats have cash in their deployment strategy :)

Samsung is clearly taking customers for a ride. They are going for the herd.

I remember reading a recommendation here on TV Forums - Lenovo Smartphone - No SD RAM Slot
Also check out:
This Lenovo has 32 GB ROM:
No warranty provided!. Wouldn't recommend buying a product like this advertised without warranty.... Something fishy about selling a brand new phone without a manufacturer warranty.

It is quite 'normal' buying a grey import in Hong Kong without a manufacturer's warranty. What you get is the retailer 1 year warranty for what its worth. Not fishy and i suspect that Lazada is selling a similar thing. Grey imports are quite a bit cheaper than full warranty sales and in the end its up to you as they say which way you want to go. Actually one of the shops at Pattaya Central Festival was selling some grey import Apple phones this year. US market products I was told.

For a tourist or someone not living in Thailand, a retailer warranty can be tricky. If something goes wrong, they need to be in Thailand to get it fixed by that retailer. (unless the retailer is global and their shop abroad is willing to fix it).

Whereas, with the manufacturers warranty, its got the backing of the brand name. Just need to ensure that it's an International Manufacturer Warranty.

For locals, I read that unless you know that the retailer will deliver on the warranty, its a definite no, no. I read it here:

http://www.cnet.com/forums/post/317ba7c8-5939-486c-a920-0c9f8dd5b529/

My Samsung Note 3 has a dealer warranty from a seller in Hong Kong. Actually I don't care all that much. I am not expecting it to break down. If it does I will just get it fixed somewhere. I think if someone is nervous about warranties then best to pay top dollar and not buy the grey market version.

Got to chang mai today in Samsung store they said they will get 64GB on Monday as all other stores in the North. Will be pretty limited stock. Huh. I forgot about the color though. Won't be able to grab one on Monday as I live 100km from nearest Samsung store

who on earth calls a Samsung Shop (Samsung Official Store) a Samsung Factory Store.?

There's always one!.

When I searched online for Samsung Factory Store, this was the the closest match:

http://sam.factoryoutletstore.com/

You wrote, "They don't delivery international. Only U.S. Did you have it delivered to your U.S Address?, does your warranty cover Thailand? i.e. you could take it to a Samsung Service centre in thailand and have it repaired under the warranty that came with it."
Samsung corp. has sales facilities in Thailand. Company store, factory store, Samsung shop are interchangeable terms as opposed to a store that sells many different brands.
I believe people who are native English speakers call a Samsung Official Store a factory store (exception maybe India).

Wrong again!, I have never even been to India.

Google Inc which is based (headquartered) in California seems to think Samsung Factory store is the website:

http://sam.factoryoutletstore.com/

You maybe a "Native" English speaker but you seem to have some difficulties comprehending English. Here is an example:

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/825780-democracy-is-more-than-polls/page-8#entry9427136

Your lack of comprehension (in your opinion) is due to the other persons "style of posting". IMHO it's narrow-mindedness. I use narrow-mindedness in the context of the definition here.

I told you in post 40 that a search engine referred me to the website sam.factoryoutletstore.com.

Now you are saying:

Samsung Corp has sales facilities in Thailand.

Note the word in bold letters. If you keep backtracking like this you may find yourself doing the moon-walk (like michael jackson)

Company store, factory store, Samsung shop are interchangeable terms as opposed to a store that sells many different brands.

Here is the definition of "store":

an establishment where merchandise is sold, usually on a retail basis.

Note the word "usually". Samsung shops do not sell phones on a wholesale basis. In your quote "Company store, factory store, Samsung shop are interchangeable terms as opposed to a store that sells many different brands."

I think you were (in #post 32) incorrectly referring to Factory Outlets and Outlet stores, when you intended to say Samsung Store or Samsung Shop. Plainly, you should never have used the word factory. Its both superflous (unnecessary) and incorrect because there simply isn't a Samsung factory manufacturing Samsung phones next to (or in the vicinity) of the Malls; The Malls that comprise the Samsung stores (Shops).

Stop trying to insult me. Contrary to your opinion from an earlier post above (They don't delivery international. Only U.S. Did you have it delivered to your U.S Address?, does your warranty cover Thailand?) you can buy a Samsung phone from the Samsung company in Thailand. You can call it a factory store or a company store or a Samsung store the meaning and function is all the same - purchase a real Samsung phone from a real Samsung store and not a black or grey market knock off.

I wasn't made aware that it was a black-market item. Had just arrived in Thailand. Shopping Malls where I hail from do not sell black-market goods openly.

So now you are criticizing all of Samsung's products because you did not know Thailand sells knock off merchandise?

Perhaps you should have educated yourself about Thailand before you came. For future reference below is what a Samsung company or factory store looks like.

Read all the posts and my posts in other threads, I have said all of the Galaxy Grand II duo's have suspect performance. In this thread I have clearly said I have not owned a Samsung Laptop.

really?, like the MBK centre website is gonno say "We sell black-market goods". You need to reflect on what you are saying carefully. Read your post before hitting "Add reply", read it to yourself and figure out if it makes sense to YOU?.

For future reference below is what a Samsung company or factory store looks like.

You clearly need to rely on pictures more than the use of words, phrases and idioms.

You haven't answered my post from before, its good for you if you can walk in to a Samsung store and purchase a phone at the store price. I think its uncouth, uncivilized and ignorant to offer a general opinion that everyone should purchase their phones from a Samsung store, when you are not aware of everyone's circumstances. They may not be able to afford it. Have you never come across anyone buying/using second hand phones?. There could be for a variety of reasons but there are some that cannot genuinely afford going to a Samsung shop to purchase a phone.

when someone says they have a problem with their car, your (rubbish) advice is: buy a Mercedes from the dealer.

Seriously, the sale of black-market goods in a popular shopping mall cannot do anyone any good in the long-term. Not the Shopping Mall, not the brand name, definitely not the retailer, not the Office of Consumer Protection (OCPB) in thailand, not the police, and not the image of the country.

If the Shopping Mall Managers do not put a stop to it, the police and OCPB has to, otherwise that Mall will go down the same route as Pantip Plaza.

Can we stop calling it the factory store?

It sounds so gay

There is basically 2 ways to get it , you buy it from Samsung directly or from an authorised reseller (probably ais, true, jmart, banana it etc) and pay full retail amount..... Or take your chances on getting a fault free unit from mbk that may or may not be refurbished or a factory 2nd etc that will likely not be from Thailand and Samsung Thai have no responsibility to even look at it never mind fix it for you

They use different types of screens, cpus, chipsets, graphics cards and god knows what else so even if they wanted to fix it, maybe their parts inventory is incompatible....

This happened my old note 3,it's a sprint USA version and nobody in Thailand has the spare parts but I got it for 10k a long time ago so gotta take the loss

If I paid retail back then it was over 20k but the phone is lying on my desk for half a year or so but if I paid for the thai warranty, it might still be working :)

Its a roll of the dice buying black market goods for cash, sometimes you win , sometimes not :(

Edit to add I agree with the above. Except about the gay part. But if it makes you all feel better I'll try to remember to call a factory store something else. You know that mall right outside of Pattaya where they have all the brand name outlets don't they call that the factory store mall?

I think it is and I know more than you do.

1) Let the others be the judge....Age (I think you mean experience) is not a quantifier of Knowledge. "Western" education does not necessarily magically make you know more. Travel does expand your knowledge of other cultures...so, what happened??. By the way, leaving the U.S to come to Thailand (many U.S people of course do not ever travel abroad..so you've done well) doesn't count as travelling the world.

2) Furthermore, you backtracked and changed your comment soon after posting:

Thailand is not a nanny state.

to what is now post #50.

3) You did not (were not) think(ing) about China and the diatribe you go on about in post #50, when you made the original comment above.

4) Pirate goods and Black-market goods. Not the same. Pirate good is a fake, black-market good not necessarily. There is a world of difference between something sold on the street and something you buy from a shopping mall.

I've used iphones since they first came out and imo the battery life and cam/video is totally pony, having switched to a galaxy edge instead of a iphone6 was the best move I ever did as everything is more responsive crystal clarity clear cam/video music and better apps, will never go back to iPhone again, as for 64gig Samsung they have top floor jungceylon

I am not sure about the references to black-market goods. There are copies, which are clearly fakes (and this has been a problem for both Samsung and Apple). And then there are grey market products which are the real thing but sold in a different market to which they the manufacturer wanted to sell them in. If i was looking for a grey market Note 5 I would want to see a price around 25000 baht, but wouldn't expect to see much right now in Thailand. I will find out how much the Note 5 is going for in HK.

Guys guys you are going complete off topic here. Leave it at that. I haven't bought a second hand phone ver in my life. It wasn't issue of money it was that you never know what you are getting. It is not only Thailand that sells fake phones. But if you want to buy second hand phone god knows in what place be prepared!!! Do your research, apart from visual cues that most parts are so bad that only blind won't tell difference apart or things on top like tv antennas. There are tools online that can help you identify that the phone is legit. So use them. If someone bought a fake phone without putting any effort in researching then its entirely that persons fault no one else's.

Lets get back to actual note 5 discussion. Played with it all day almost absolutely love it. Had 50% battery when I took it out of the box. Now 20% left after playing all day. Plugged it into fast charger and it took 1 hour and 2 mins to charge to full. No i don't think non removable battery will be an issue

Batteries deteriorate, gf has a s6 edge

When it was new it lasted the day, now it can't but power banks are cheaper than spare oem batteries anyway and sockets are nearly everywhere (the bus to isaan from bkk even has USB ports now)

I saw the note 5 a few days ago, very nice, congratulations :)

I went to the Samsng shop last week, they only had the 32gb models so I ordered the 64gb one (Titanium silver), picked it up on Saturday and got the fast wireless charges thrown in at a discount of Bht 500.

Afte initially being on the fence about it (I own the Note 4) I decided to go for it and am not disapointed, it is a beautiful design, making the Note 4 with it sharp metal edged industrial design feel like something out of the dark ages, it is thinner and lighter while keeping the same screen size and feel great in the hand. The one negative is the that the back is a fingerprint magnet, but I put a clear case on it anyway. The camera is a great improvement on the Note 4 and they have now added RAW support and shutter speed control, also camera quick launch with a double tap on the home button. Inital available memory is about 54gb, pretty acceptable but obviously depends on ones storage use requirements. The battery so far is very good, better than my Note 4 and in online tests it bests other batteries of bigger size. All round it is a polished package, even the much maligned Touchwiz is not bad (even though I still load up Nova launcher). Additionaly it comes with fully functional Microsoft office onboard, very functional and tightly integrated to Onedrive online storage. Finally, it has the S Pen with improvements, all round probably the best phone one can buy (at the moment!).

Kudos to Samsung for announcing this phone and having it in the shops days after launch (I could have bough the 32Gb model on the 15th). They are really going after Apple aggresivley by launching and selling this a month before Apple anounces their next devices.

PS : Also blazingly fast with the 4gb of RAM and fast charging is very good.

Wouldn't touch a Samsung phone with a barge-pole. Horrible updates.

That's not my experience at all, my S6 edge gets very timely updates so far (5.1.1 r2 now). But don't expect a lot of updates from any manufacturer for their low-end devices. Edited by pmugghc
