Anyone use wireless headphones for TV listening?

My hearing definitely isn't what it used to be, and I find myself struggling to pick up conversations on the TV. As I watch the TV with the missus I don't want to crank the volume up too high, so wondered if one of these wireless headphones with transmitter might do the job?

I used to use a GHz wireless headphone when watching TV late at night. They worked great.

Oh, my mom, who is 92 now, uses a wireless headphone too. Her hearing is not what it was and she loves the headphones.

I have a pair of Sennheiser wireless headphones which I have used on occasion for years so as not to disturb the family when I watch TV. Mine are an older model but have great sound, good battery life and are very comfortable to wear.

Below is their web address (for Australia) if you're interested to research what they have available.

I have a Sennheiser headset also, though haven't needed to use it for years. Worked great. Recharged while sitting on the cradle and lasted for hours. I never had it run out of battery. The only thing was sometimes it would get a little sweaty with the headset interfering with ventilation. But it took a while for that to happen.

Have two. One is a "noise blocker" and is very good at reducing noise (like motors, traffic, background noise). However, they are very uncomfortable to wear, for longer than half an hour or so. My other pair is very light, with a soft plastic/wide band that gently sets on your head.

If you are not an audiophile...and just need the voice to come over clearly, almost any wireless headset would do, as long as they are comfortable. Just set your equalizer/audio settings on your television to bring out the best voice, and reduce the Highs and Lows. I like to do this anyways, as I can listen an a lower volume, and understand the dialogue better. I hate those movies where people whisper, and you have to turn it up to hear....and then, all of a sudden...a loud shooting scene, or loud music blares through, directly into my ears. Some televisions have the ability to regulate those highs and lows, as well.. (smart sound?).

Anyways...go for the set that is light, and comfortable, and allows air circulation/does not put pressure against your ears. Mid range quality should be fine.

I have some that are Sony and I really like them. I know nothing about the market in general but if it matters I wouldn't want any that didn't have "tone controls" and volume control separate from those on the TV. I don't hear the higher pitches as well as the low (common, I understand with aging) so the people listening to the TV don't have to hear my boosted treble sounds which sound normal to me. I can set them where I want them and no one else can hear them.

I live alone so normally I just turn the TV up some so these are only for when there is longer term company and everyone is doing his own thing.

Don't understand this wireless thing...sad.png

I have headphones but a bit of a pain as have a 5m extension plugged into the TV, use on PC without the extension..

so how do you set up a wireless headphone ? how does the headphone know I want to hear the TV and not the PC ? sorry if it is a silly question but I have no idea, so never bought wireless..

the extension cord in a pain as the dogs think it is fun to pull it, or nibble on it..

From what I understand there is a "sender" unit that is plugged into the audio OUT on the TV. Both the "sender" and the headphones have to be battery powered, or at least have rechargeable batteries.

I'm sure the Sennheiser model would be good, but probably very expensive. I have a pair of the corded headphones that I used to listen to music with, and I think they cost me more than $100 and that was over 20 years ago.

Yes some have a sender unit.

But in this day of modern technology many use Bluetooth, but you need a capable set up to achieve this

Many thanks, guess my big Panasonic Plasma TV has not got Bluetooth as it is about 8 years old.

so would have to look at one with a sender unit.

Mine doesn't have Bluetooth either.

I've got Sony Wireless Headphones. Work well. The cradle that the headphones sit on to be recharged, doubles as the sender unit. Can be used with any TV, providing the TV has a 3.5m audio jack socket. Think you'd be hard pressed to find a TV that doesn't. Only issue has been the soft plastic ear padding has begun to disintegrate - a problem with the humidity here. About 50 quid purchase from Ebay.

Do you have a model #? Thanks.

My sisters had to get one for my Dad because he would just blast the TV. It was great for us. They definitely work. Sorry I don't know what to recommend for any specific brand. Some TVs may have a convenient hook up, others may just have the traditional headphone jack. There are several types of headphones with a little plug in that use Infrared or RF and plug into the TV jack and then transmit to your headphones.

There's quite a few on Ebay, brands like Sony, Philips etc, but the killer is the shipping. Most US sales want at least $50 for shipping, then they whack the import duty on top. So a set of $50 wireless headphones ends up costing $120!

Thanks, but as I said, the shipping is the killer. Most of the good brands are from the US and the shipping is prohibitive.

Not sure they are (from the US) but i get your point. Guess you need a friend or family member Thailand bound.
