A group of Thai football fans were arrested after violent clashes with Lao officials during a youth match in Vientiane.

BANGKOK: The Thai Embassy in Vientiane issued an apology after a violent brawl between Thai football supporters and Lao officials in Vientiane on Friday night (Sep 4).

Clashes broke out in the stands during the Asian Football Federation U-19 Championship final, resulting in the arrest of 25 Thai fans.

Flares were lit as Thailand celebrated their side scoring against Vietnam, prompting Lao officials to try and restore order. Scuffles broke out and Vietnamese fans were seen throwing bottles from other parts of Laos National Stadium.

"Some sections of the Thai fans were uncivil in their conduct towards the officials of Lao People's Democratic Republic," the statement read. "The Embassy is saddened by the incident and would like to apologise to the officials and the people of Laos for what happened."

Thailand eventually eased to victory in the match, winning 7-0.

Seems football hooligans are the same everywhere.

Lao should have called in the army, sealed off the Thai section, escorted every one of their stupid asses to trucks, and shipped every one of them out of the country and back to Thailand.

Shame it spoils it for the genuine fans who have actually travelled to watch a football game.

No doubt my bachelor students will want to discuss this on Monday.

Their line will be 'but the Lao people are so rude to the Thai fans, they just want to have fun.'

European culture coming to beautiful South-East Asia. sad.png

You really think Asians need tuition on hooliganism and racist hatred.

Did you see any Farangs in the that crowd ?

Stupidity of sports fans is at least one thing that's universal.

Can't say I blame them, did nobody see what started it? It was video'd all over the place. The Laos supporters were throwing bottles at the Thais - and I mean, a lot of bottles.

clap2.gif Their English training is finally showingcheesy.gif Never seen Thais with shaved heads and Doc Martins thoughbah.gif

This is BS the Vietnamese were lighting flares way before right in the beginning but nobody seemed to care

Looked to me like the Thai ladies tried to calm it down but the Laos officials insisted on escalating it.

So not much different to a Manchester united /Leeds game then eh?

It's common sense isn't it Thai fans have been supporting their team overseas for decades with no problems the Vietnamese come to Thailand and have no problems why would Thai fans on the winning side start a fight it is likely the Vietnamese started it but as always Laos are Vietnamese lapdogs like the Cambodians.

Just look at those animals! You'd never see anything like that in England or other civilized nations.

Not "Chaos in Laos"? Some Sub-ed has missed a trick there (or am I just suffering from the effects of years of relentless tabloidisation?).

That's the way to deal with hooligans: Draw your guns and fire a warning shot! Well done Lao police.

Inspired by the British "fans", no doubt!!

or dutch german take ure pic football hoollies are world wide, probably when u know something about something then your in a position 2 speak until then best not.

You can take Thais out of Thailand...but you can not take "Thainess" out of a Thai...

Mob violence mentality...is not a uniquely Thai phenomenon...

The Laos officials seemed to front up the Thai women this was rightly defended by the Thai men. I am not sure who was throwing bottles and other stuff but it seems probably the Vientnamese.

I think the Thai's got a bad press on this one.

Except the Lao supporters were Vietnamese.

Terrible incident, but I did get a chuckle out of the one guy proudly holding his 'Thailand' sign upside down for a good part of the ruckus..

So I heard, how did that happen?
