Importing My vehicles from my home country.

Featured Replies

Does anybody know if it is possible to bring my used vehicles from my home country into Thailand. I am from Botswana. Hope someone can help me. Rgds. Ken

As stated freaking expensive to import the likes of vehicles, best left at home and sold via kin or friends and repurchase here.

Sure it is possible, just sent them over and go to customs when they arrive.

Please keep us updated about the outcome, and how much you paid, that is if you ever get hold again of your vehicles.

As an alternative you can use the search function on this forum.

Please forget it.

Will cost you a fortune and tons of documents, bribes etc. pp.

Even professional movers will not give another advice.

Try so sell them in your home country.

Another way would be to temporarily import as a tourist it's free and not even a carnet is required. However, that isn't really a long term solution as technically a foreign registered vehicle is only given 1 moni extendable up to 6 months. Indeed Malaysia may be a better option.

What a load of cow manure ?

This may not be totally related.

I am very curious in find out what is about the car transport trucks passing by every week in Chiang Rai on the route to the Mae Sai Myanmar border. All those trucks are loaded with pristine second hand cars without license plate, and from brands and models not common in Thailand. Some Japanese 2008 to 2010 models selling in the US, and even a luxury Chinese brand. Not European brands.

Do you ever see them return with the same cars?

Q: Why are cars so expensive here?

A: Because there are extreme high import duties.

Q: So do you think it's a good idea to import my vehicles from my home country?

A: See the first answer.

What about cars that are produced in Thailand as many are? they are very expensive also

No they are not.

Go buy a Vigo in Europe and see if they are cheaper there.

In my country a 2008 Vigo goes for the price of a brandnew one in Thailand.

And here is the price for a new one, excluding 21% vat or a total of about 1.5 Million Thai Baht

You might be right, I dont know about Europe,

I am from the US and compared to Thailand ,cars in the US are a lot less expensive

for instance a new Honda Civic AT can be had for 619,000 ($18,000) http://www.edmunds.com/honda/civic/2015/?sub=coupe

Where in Thailand you would pay 838,000 baht($24,547) http://www.honda.co.th/en/civic

with a 34 baht per usd rate of exchange a difference of $6500.00

I guess we all, including me,smile.png need to keep in mind that we are all from different places.

Most of the cars I drive in the US, I could never afford in Thailand, and as you said , partly because of import duties

but also I guess, partly because of scale of economies, and domestic taxes imposed.

One thing I noticed is that Diesel engine vehicle seem to be more reasonable in Thailand especially Pick up trucks

and also the price of Diesel fuel seems to be less expensive compared to the US

You really need to sell your cars in your home country and buy A car here. There have been stories where people have sent their

Motorcycle over here.It went straight to customs. He never saw it again.Don't know how true it is.Good luck.

Ken its not worth importing a car - best to sell at home and buy a japanese car in Thailand.

I think it is partially correct.

However, many instances when I compared the specs of those models in my (EU) country, and that of selling here in Thailand, the difference was considerable.

Lots of the mid price range pickups here wont even have ABS, cars might have very few airbags, etc....and the dealer extra is "floor mat", even for that Mitsu said not if I buy on finance, LOL.

But it is true that pickups are cheaper here, part on the tax on them...however cars tend to cost more, often a lot more.

Vehicle price Thailand... Unfortunately expensive food cheap, housing cheap...end result not too bad.

Yes they are, he said "cars" he didn't say Vigo pick up trucks and he's right they are more expensive and the packages offered are basic with few options.
