Kentucky clerk appeals order putting her in jail

Featured Replies

So what? The bigot lady hasn't changed her position. She hasn't won. She can't win. What SCOTUS rules overrules all local and so called biblical law.

Let's think about this for a minute.

Planned Parenthood violates federal law with unspeakable atrocities and selling of baby parts. Sanctuary Cities completely IGNORE federal laws on immigration. Department of Justice runs guns to Mexican Cartels causing loss of life. The IRS illegally targets conservative Americans. Hillary Clinton violates federal law regarding handling of classified material, and a handful of liberal Thai Visa posters believe this Kentucky clerk should be fired and sent to prison just because she didn't want to issue marriage licenses to same sex (gender confused) couples.

You have got to be kidding me. You can't even make stuff like this up.

The difference? Thousands of legal rights that instantly go into effect when married. There used to be gay civil unions in some US states. Each one of those thousands of instant marriage rights would need to be separately legislated. Meaning anything even close to equality with marriage was never going to happen. With actual marriage the rights covered from the local to the federal and even sometimes the international level. Stop this waste of time debating whether same sex marriage should exist. Too late!!! It does exist now in all 50 states and it has absolutely nothing to do with forcing religions to perform ceremonies for people they don't wish to. Before making inane commentary about marriage law in the USA perhaps first learn what it us. The USA is not a theocracy.

I think many non Americans fail to understand the 50 state laws situation in the US and the fact that only a dramatic and definite federal action such as SCOTUS took was the only practical solution.

Also who cares if you think all marriage is poo? Many people want to get married. Nobody is forcing you to marry.

I'm commenting on marriage as a world situation, not just marriage in the US. However, as this thread is about the clerk and her religious views, marriage per se is off topic, so I won't comment further on this thread about marriage, except to say there are 50% of married men that regret having ever signed that piece of paper.

But those men did have the choice whether to sign those papers or not.

This woman is denying them that legal right based on her own persoal belief.

Let's think about this for a minute.

Gay people are generally not gender confused. You are the confused one.

This isn't a fox "news" spin zone to harp on about all the current right wing Fox obsessions. It's only about this clerk blatantly denying the civil rights of gay people in her little Hicksville.

Let's not throw around wild unsubstantiated allegations.

To date no-one has been able to find them guilty of breaking any law.

It is not illegal to be distasteful.

Oh dear.

She was not jailed for her christian beliefs. She was jailed for not following the law. No one is trying to stop her believing whatever she wants to. The problem is that she is trying to make people follow HER beliefs by not doing her job.

All the rest of your post is off topic but if you feel strongly about it then go make an official complaint with all your evidence.

Jose H. Christos, Planned Parenthood selling baby parts, been smoking faux (not the) news lately? Aside from being off the subject, well aside from the fake, lying video being part of the right wing religious wacko plan to make the US a non-secular nation ruled by the bible with biblical laws replacing the Constitution and enforced by "christian" sharia , the clerk was jailed for trying to impose her faux religious bigoted beliefs on other people. She was NOT jailed for practicing religious freedom, she was jailed for denying civil rights. Her misguided and ill-informed beliefs make her part of the "Christian Reconstruction" and dominionist looney right wing wackos. The US is and always has been a secular country, not a country founded on the bible or a belief in some god that may or may not exist. It has a Constitution and Bill of Rights and the rule of law. It does not have a taliban type christian sharia enforcing their wacko beliefs in the bible. She and her handlers show no sign of following the judges orders to stop interfering with peoples rights, real rights not some phony wacko religious belief. I hope he locks her up and throws away the key when she goes back to trying to impose her so-called religion on others.

Would be nice to hear her opinion on interracial marriage. I think we can all guess on that one.

This Kentucky clerk should be applauded for her decision to refuse issuing same sex marriage licenses. Marriage is a covenant between a man and a woman which is by its nature ordered toward the procreation and education of children. Same sex marriage defies nature. What part of this is confusing for you and the other same sex marriage supporters??

I wonder if she has ever issued a marriage license to an infertile couple because that is also part of the covenant. How many times as she been married? 3-4?

She should be stoned to death according to her own beliefs!

If she won't perform her job she has no business keeping it. Sensible Americans even those unhappy with the NATIONAL legalization understand that.

If she is made to "suffer" too much, she wins the PR game she is playing. As if she is the victim here when all she had to do was her job respecting the law and the basic civil rights of her fellow citizens.

Believe it or not, I think most Americans can see what is going here. They realize they don't want to live in a country where government clerks are sanctioned to be bigoted against any class of people for whatever their reasons.

Her only supporters are the hard core right wing fundamentalists. No more than 25 percent of the people, but higher in the SOUTH.

But she can get very rich (already famous) by being a martyr hero to that segment.

This may come as a shock to you but the Kentucky clerk who is refusing to sign marriage licenses for same sex couples wanting to marry each other is a life long Democrat. It's probably because she believes marriage was meant to be between a man and woman. The people who support her are normal people who agree that marriage was meant to be between men and women. This is not rocket science.

What she or anyone else believes in is totally irrelevent. Just do what the law says. Not rocket science at all.

And if she can't she should resign.....problem fixed....can stay happy with her invisible friends and don't brake the law.

The SCOTUS was about governmental marriage legalization. Nothing about forcing churches etc. what to do. Perhaps learn the basics before commenting here. The US is a country of laws. There is no need to involve any religious institution at all in legalizing your marriage there. The bigot lady is trying and will fail to impose her religious fanaticism on a secular government matter. It's not that complicated. She cannot do that.

I asked if this thread was about religious or civil marriages before, but no one answered. At least I tried, but no one wants to make it clear what we are talking about.

It was answered long ago.

Did you think this bigot lady government clerk is working as a church official and the gay couples being denied by her are trying to marry in her church?! ?

Jeez Louise dude ... why would you post strong opinions about a topic that you haven't even bothered to learn the basics about?

Strong opinions LOL. I couldn't care less about the marriage issue, but I think it was wrong to jail her. I do feel strongly about injustice and that was obviously unjust.

She jailed herself. Can't you see this is all a big political stunt?

Good grief- it's ALL a political stunt. Can't you see that?

No. It's a civil rights struggle.

I'll agree to that if you agree to multiple member marriages. Why shouldn't Muslims and Mormons have the right to follow their beliefs?

Put it before SCOTUS and best of luck to you. Dude you obviously aren't a serious poster here. First you're clueless about what the issue is and now a shameless off topic diversion.

Not at all. It's as much a Muslim's civil right to marry 4 women as it is for homosexuals to marry each other.

Why is SCOTUS biased against Muslims and Mormons?

No. It's a civil rights struggle.

Why is SCOTUS biased against Muslims and Mormons?

Absolutely, they should be able to follow their religion.

Question:

Does Islam really allow a man to take up to four wives?

Summary Answer:

Yes, a Muslim man can marry as man as four women, and have sexual relations with an unspecified number of slaves as well. Muhammad had eleven wives at one time.

No. It's a civil rights struggle.

Baiting question ignored. You are being ridiculous. There is a topic here. Why not either respect it or forget about it?

Muslims, Mormons and anybody else can take up their cause if they want. It is not the topic of this thread.

When San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsome ordered Gay marriage legal in SF before the courts did, why wasn't he jailed? He violated the law. What's the difference?

This reeks of Nazi Germany.

At the time that San Francisco legalized gay marriage, it was not specifically against the law. After there was a lot of effort to amend and pass laws to make marriage between a man and a woman.

Gay people didn't put her in jail. She refused to follow SCOTUS. SCOTUS is not gay people.

One thing is crystal clear as Alan Dershowitz pointed out on CNN is that for the bigot lady this isn't really about religious belief but actually about cherry picking anti gay bible dogma and ignoring the rest of it. If bigot lady actually did follow the bible literally in all matters she would justifiably be facing her own execution in any civilized society.
